⠀ ⠀⠀Their apparent determination gets a laugh out of the Distorted one. It's so amusing, so delicious! ⠀⠀The halls are endless, they twist, turn, yet it never ends. If they tried to turn around, they'd be met with a wall. Was any of it real? ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 I'm afraid ... that's not how this works. 〞 ⠀⠀It answers simply; and the warmth is uncomfortable, the colors on the walls clash in such a way that is displeasing on the eyes. The spirals upon the walls twist and distort, it's as though they moved. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀More of that strange, terrible laughter. 〝 I am not a "who," little flame, I am a "what" ! 〞 ⠀⠀There's nothing there, nothing that could even be speaking to them. And yet ... something is speaking to them. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀The moment they let go of the door, it clicks shut —— and if they were to turn back, the door would be gone. Was it ever there to begin with? Perhaps not. There's just a wall there now, a wall of spiraling patterns. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Nothing replies, of course. It's just a door, a door with an impossible hallway. Why would they ever think that something would respond to them? ⠀⠀It's very warm inside, and there are strange paintings ( or were they mirrors? ) along the walls. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Oh, but is it just a trick of the eye? Can't they feel the warmth radiating from within the impossible corridor? It looks completely normal, at least, from the outside. Nothing at all implying that this strange space was even connected to it. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀They don't even need to turn the knob, for the second they touch the handle, the door slowly creaks open — deliberately, as if inviting them inside. ⠀⠀Within, is something truly impossible. A hallway, windowless, lit by lamplight. ⠀⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Maybe it's always been there. The door is completely ... normal, rather, as normal looking as a door in the middle of nowhere could be! It's inviting, beckoning for them to come closer. To open the door, to inspect further. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀There's a door waiting for you; it's simple, painted yellow with a matte black handle. Was it always there? Regardless, it beckons for you to open it -- to walk * through it. ⠀

( She pants as her knees give way, sending her to the wet grass of mid-spring. She's never been so thankful for it, or for the quickly setting sun. ) ( Wait, setting? She quickly hobbles together a torch as she leaves the area, doing everything she can to put the door out of her mind. )

⠀ ⠀⠀It shatters on impact; and before she could even process it, she was back on the same ground she had been on previously, before the door. ⠀⠀Speaking of the door; it was gone. As if it had never been there to begin with. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀She's not afraid, how strange! A lesser man would have surely lost their mind by now, it makes the Distortion all the more curious. ⠀⠀There is not a door leading to her exit, but there is a mirror — or was it still a painting? ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Another laugh; as if the very fact that she was armed was amusing to the thing. It gets closer by the moment; every painting now showing the same image. Distorted paintings of the thing that approached in its unnatural way. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 Hm... no. 〞 ⠀⠀It speaks strangely, as if it had no concept of how a real conversation worked. ⠀⠀〝 You walked in, I simply left the door there. 〞 ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 That's very rude, isn't it? 〞 The lamp vanishes; or was she ever holding a lamp? It's fastened back onto where it had been previously, though. As if she had never touched it. ⠀⠀〝 Tossing things around like that. 〞 ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀The lamp is perfectly fine; just as ... that thing had said it was, it shifts in her hand, though it does not do anything more. It's just a lamp, nothing more, nothing less. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Its laughter echoes throughout the halls; endlessly bouncing off the walls as the presence vanishes all-together. She is ... alone once again, perhaps she's alone -- could she be completely sure? ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 Oh, but it was! 〞 ⠀⠀Another distorted chuckle, and it is neither here, nor there. It is nowhere, yet everywhere. It is behind her. ⠀⠀〝 Fix me ...? I'm afraid there is nothing * to fix, Handywoman. You will be lost, wandering these halls forever. 〞 ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 The ... light? 〞 ⠀⠀It's something about that statement that makes it laugh; and it's an unnatural laugh, as if it were laughing quietly, as if someone turned up the volume to create a terrible, distorted chuckle. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 And ... what is it ... that you are aiming to do? 〞 ⠀⠀She's yet to find her escape ( if there was one ), so for the Distortion to witness such oddity ... yes, it could perhaps say that it was ... fascinating in some way. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀〝 I ... would not do that ... if I were you. 〞 ⠀⠀It's a voice that comes from nowhere, its tone filled with a strange, distant mirth. Was it one voice? Or was it multiple? It seemed to come from all angles, yet it seemed to be in her ear. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀There weren't really things to stand on in the endless hallways, there really wasn't anything but lamps, strangely shaped paintings ( were they paintings? ), and the spiraling walls. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀Every corridor, every path; it was identical. Never-ending -- it was as if she weren't even moving where she had been previously, even if she were to try and turn around, she'd be met with a wall. It beckons to continue, to get lost within itself. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀It's still warm; or was it cold? Regardless, it was enough to make one shiver—yet sweat. It's spiraling walls craft intricate designs; the colors never being quite the same ones as before. ⠀

⠀ ⠀⠀There is no door, not anymore. It's just a wall now; with spiraling tendrils painted upon the wall. They're mesmerizing, the spirals. They have no end to them, yet no discernible beginning. They just * are. ⠀⠀There is only one way to go, Winona. ⠀
