#HappyBirthday to artist Kilby Webb Elwell (1841-1916)! Elwell was born in Gloucester in 1841 and, except for his service in the Civil War, spent his entire life on Cape Ann. Elwell enjoyed success painting landscapes and signs for local businesses.

Steam-powered ferries were an important means of transportation throughout the 19-20th centuries. Here in Gloucester, ferry service was also available around the Inner Harbor on board the “Little Giant” which is shown in this photograph by Ernest Blatchford from around 1905.
