Notes from #RSL preseason game #2: - our new back 3 formation does seem more solid defensively - our back line/GK were sloppy, had bad giveaways - Luna is entering the season in good form - much of our danger came from long balls over the top to Gozo or Luna

#RSL fans need to come to terms with the fact that we're losing Diego this summer. I hope he thrives in Europe. Also, the FO has plenty of notice on this so I hope they make the necessary moves so we're still competitive after his departure.

Today is day 1 of #RSL preseason! Reasons I'm excited... - Young attacking talent: Obviously Luna & Gozo can be electric. Can Hezarkhani become a regular contributor? - Full preseason for summer signings: Can Olatunji, Cruz take next step? However, I still have questions about the defense.

#URFC xG for and against by game. The Royals have won the xG battle 5 times in 19 games this year. 3 of those 5 occurrences have been in the last 4 games (Angel City, Portland, & North Carolina). The other 2 were v. BAY to begin the year and v. CHI (thanks to a penalty).

Because only 4 out of the 18 MLS teams in Leagues Cup will advance, it will be difficult for any team, including #RSL, to qualify for the knockouts. However, their results have been quite good recently and they have an average strength of schedule, so I don’t think it’s unrealistic.

#RSL are 5-1-1 in their last 7 games. It’s hard not to be happy about that!

I’m not feeling existential about that #RSL loss at all. Cincy’s defensive spine is very, very good (they now have the most points in MLS btw) so we struggled much more with the ball than our previous game, but it was a hard-fought game with a mildly disappointing ending.

I thought this was coming. He’s a good player and I’m still confused as to why #RSL managed him the way they did. He was captain and DPOY of the Monarchs at 18 yo, then they sent him off on loan for 2 straight seasons then released him. I hope he has a good career with STL.

#RSL played some pretty soccer last night. Fluid, sophisticated build-up from Luna, Diogo, Gozo et al. Agada was unfortunately a weak link at times, but Pablo has the guys playing well overall.

#RSL Summer Transfer Window News DM Nelson Palacio will go on loan to FC Zurich of the Swiss Super League for 2025-26, with a purchase option thereafter.

I was happy to see Jaziel Orozco get the start for STL today (his first MLS start/app since a four-game stretch at CB for #RSL in 2022). Diogo may be finding his form. Gozo is still dangerous. Cabral is sensational. Good win.

Better news for #URFC fans. Mandy McGlynn has 3 goal-creating actions so far. Only one other GK has any, and it's Kailen Sheridan with just 1. Is McGlynn the most dangerous passer among #NWSL GKs?

Below is the xG Allowed for each NWSL team (per Opta). Two teams stick out: KC Current & #URFC. This is unacceptable and I chalk it up to both poor individual play and the coaches not putting players in positions to succeed.

It's great to see Ally & Mandy get called up again! Emma clearly believes in their abilities despite #URFC 's struggles. I'm very high on Lilly Reale so I'm excited to see what sort of minutes she can push for on the senior team.

In the first 6 games this season, #URFC averaged 56% possession. In the last 6 games (so far), they have only averaged 47% possession. I think one reason for this is because we've shown a tendency to give up the ball in bad spots under pressure so teams have been pressing us more intensely.

My 2 cents on the #URFC situation. Vibes are at an all-time low. I think our biggest issues are defensive. We lack the athleticism in the midfield to control a game in this league. Our back line is also under heavy pressure all game, and they're lacking confidence, especially on the left side.

It was fun to watch the young talents on that U23 roster play together. Defenders Jordyn Bugg and Lilly Reale were the standouts to me. Both controlled their areas of the pitch so calmly and so well.

#RSL have dropped 5 points in stoppage time so far this season. If they just held those results, we would have 20 points and be tied for 8th in the West. Instead, we’re at 15 points and down in 12th place.

The Scout Bee - #ATXvRSL #AustinFC are mid-table in the west thus far. They have the same GD as #RSL but are 5 points ahead in the table through 15 games. They are also in the #USOC quarterfinals. To sum, they're solidly having a better season than us and we're playing them at their stadium. 🧵:1/4

With our healthiest lineup yet this season, we figured out how to score some goals! Still MUCH to improve defensively, especially on the left side and dealing with crosses. However, it’s great to end the losing streak! #URFC
