I had a theory that June 29-July 1 were cursed days for me, but I seem to have escaped utter chaos this year. Yay me.

I get the sense that many people think teaching is super basic and shouldn’t take up that much time Meanwhile I’m constantly thinking about how this shit is so complicated and sucks up so many hours of the day

I supervise an undergrad level class that has both online and classroom sections. I’m toying with the idea of going back to in-person exams for the classroom sections this fall, and it’s honestly ridiculous how that idea is seemingly SO SIMPLE but actually really complicated in practice 😭

My 4yo just asked for “plain spaghetti.” “You mean spaghetti with butter and Parmesan?” I asked. “No!!! No butter. No cheese.” My foodie heart died inside…until I realized I could sneak in butter, soy sauce, broth, and the oil from a jar of a sundried tomatoes 🤫

Perfect post-pool Sunday dinner: 🥬 iceberg lettuce, carrots, tomato, cucumber, coarsely shredded cheddar, thousand island dressing mixed with a little bit of buttermilk 🍝 spaghetti with marinara 💚 zucchini given the eggplant parm treatment 🧄 garlic bread (of course)

It went well!!! Sometimes this job sucks, but today was not one of those days. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch a student excel and to hear faculty provide rigorous yet constructive and achievable feedback 🙌

In theory, one aspect of my job that I really like is that nothing is truly urgent. It’s not like I’m a healthcare provider responsible for people’s lives... Which is why few things piss me off more than manufactured crises that become my problem after hours / on weekends when I’m with my family.
