There is nothing worse, as a people pleaser and person who generally tries to be helpful, than listening to movers grumble about the stairs and heaviness of your boxes while moving.

Happy for New York and wishing for the same for DC in our next mayoral election. But tbh, this morning I’d be willing to vote for whoever will fix the No Parking permit sign process.

Lin deserves a chance to do a mash-up that includes “immigrants, we get the job done” and “the greatest city in the world” he’s earned it.

I never need an excuse to share the best piece of writing about baseball to exist, but last night’s game is a good one “This is what baseball can do to the soul: it has the ability to make you believe in spite of all other available evidence.”

This is, unfortunately, an experience every home cook must have once. No amount of additional curry paste, fish sauce, or other ingredient will balance out the fact that you just added a pint of dessert to your dinner.

Feeling distraught at the gift guides I’m seeing when A)it’s October B)everything costs a million dollars now and C)we’re filling our one precious planet with disposable junk So just a reminder for you and me that museum memberships, experiences, and homemade/thrifted items are the best gifts.

I think when we get through all of this, we shouldn’t tear down the hideous golden ballroom. We should make it a museum and fund a program for every child in America to visit it and learn about how fascism and megalomania took hold of the government, to make sure it never happens again.

This is a very niche complaint but why, in the year of our lord 2025, is the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities sending out grant agreements as non-fillable PDFs?

my woke take is that entirely too many people feel entitled to the benefits of a social contract while not feeling bound by the responsibilities of said contract

Things that made me cry today, an incomplete list: Babies at the protest. Old people at the protest. Sullen teenagers at the protest. DC flags at the protest. Biking to and from the protest on car free streets. The National Mall, and all its symbols of America. A picture of my mom at a protest.

If you had asked me 20 years ago which would be the more progressive institution in 2025, the Catholic Church or the US government, I apparently would’ve been quite wrong.

Person I just met for the first time trying to suss out my politics: “I’m not sure how you feel about-“ Me: “BAD! The fascism? I feel real bad about it.” Person: “oh, thank god. Yeah, it’s terrible.”

A reminder that 1. DC exists and remains more vulnerable because of our lack of full autonomy 2. DC grand juries continue to do the work (refusing to indict people) 3. 🥪

Yes, and, despite the fact that the president has done nothing but insult our city and send unwanted federal agents to patrol our streets and kidnap our neighbors, there are currently many organizations and agencies readying themselves to pick up the slack tomorrow and keep the city safe and clean.

Saw a kitten on my run this morning and have been thinking about it all day. Would be a hilariously on-brand turn of events if I became really committed to running again only because of the chances of kitten encounters.

Hoo boy, there are some interesting choices on this list. At first glance I’d say this is like 85% Washington, 15% DC. Like, the Landsdowne portrait of George Washington? Seriously? And the only “landscape” item on the list that isn’t federal is the Cool Disco Dan tag?

Brought home a piece of furniture from the vintage shop and realized after wrestling it from the car that I should not try to carry it up 2 flights of stairs myself, so I am waiting for a neighbor friend to get home and help me.

Did something happen to truly fuck up traffic tonight, or is this city really just that bad at driving in the rain? Because I left Georgetown at 5:15 and it’s 6:30 and I’m still on a bus crawling up 16th Street

Just tried to help a woman using a wheelchair get on a yellow line train at Mt Vernon Sq. The lip between the platform and the train was too much for her motorized wheelchair to get over, and I tried to help but couldnt manage on my own.

is this a known issue with the newer trains?

Acts of political violence aren’t acceptable. Non-political school shootings aren’t acceptable. Sacking the legislature isn’t acceptable. Military occupation of peaceful American cities isn’t acceptable. Abductions conducted in courthouse hallways by masked agents of the state aren’t acceptable.

Now that the fair is over I have time and energy to devote to important things like: how do we normalize taking off backpacks on transit? We need a “stand right, walk left” style movement to address the scourge of oversized backpacks taking up valuable space.
