i found A Complete Unknown to be a little aimless. what’s the takeaway? is this film saying anything? other than “Bob was kind of a difficult guy” didn’t dislike it - had a good time spending vintage hangs Dylan, Cash, Baez, and co. i think that’s the appeal right there

actually find myself in the minority that liked Emilia Perez 💀 despite any and all missteps/insensitivities, i was moved by the story about transformative social change starting with individual trans acceptance “what changes the body / changes the soul / changes society / changes it all”

I’m Still Here felt like an exceptionally scary movie to watch right now - as fascism encroaches on freedoms around the world questions linger: - when do you know it’s time to leave? - when do you know it’s time to stay and fight back? - what’s left in the wake of unexplained loss?

Nosferatu (2024) is a great retelling of a classic vampire story rife with gothic dread, period detail, & sex-tinged undead grotesquery Eggers showing off his toolset here, and imo gives us more character work & emotional storytelling than he has before it’s dense - i already want a 2nd viewing

rewatched the 1st part of The Northman last night. look forward to finishing it tonight. one of my favorite films some claim it’s Egger’s worst film, and to some degree i see their argument. it is less focused in its ambition, but i adore what it accomplishes. an immersive portal to a Viking world

though often (but not exclusively) in brief flashes, Luca Guadagnino’s SUSPIRIA (2018) has some of the most incredible imagery i’ve ever seen

i like Dracula’s big-foot form in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) because he’s ferocious but also looks totally mortified like just got caught eating chocolate at 3am

still thinking about Dracula, so i started looking at maps and pictures of the Carpathian mountain range appears wonderfully craggy, mysterious, majestic - even better than i pictured it while reading the novel tbh

as opposed to watching movie/tv or gaming, i find that reading requires a more aggressive approach to carving out time it’s a lot harder to keep reading while sleepy than it is to keep staring at a bright screen, so more conditions to consider trying to read more is truly an effort
