Fb reminded me that 16 years ago I finished stripping the E30 and took the car back home after using a nearby barn to do the work. At the time, my daily driver was this very early 1992 BMW 318is Coupé.

I have a 3yr child & our cars haven't got darkened windows, just inner suction shades that leave gaps on the sides where the sun does hit my child a fair amount, especially when driving home at the end of the day and the sun is on her side. I understand why some use these "baklavas" are used...

I see this early Mazda MX-5 a few times at work and I love the colour combo on this one, with an interior still in good condition and a paint with a good shine. Still has the original rear dealer numberplate. I also spotted this rather curious "Do Not Wax" sticker, which I never seen before.

Now this was a find, an off cut corner section from an E12 I got this morning. I cut the section I needed and adjusted to the cut section on my car. Saved loads of fabrication time and now i just need to file down some edges and weld.

A rarity spotted today at work, a 1995 Honda Civic LSi coupe 5th gen. I always liked these and fun to drive.

Things we miss in old BMWs:

It's been two months since some work was done on the E12. Bought a new angle grinder, chopped the last rotten bits and applied rust converter. Next step is to cut new metal and weld it. Two full days' work needed to have all the welding done, but unsure when that's happening

Kudos to the owner/driver of this very well kept S reg Punto ELX snd using it on a daily commute. We seldom see these nowadays which is a shame

Electric scooters should be banned. They are illegal for use on public roads and pavements, but people just don't care. Leaving the nursery yesterday with my 3 yr old daughter and a girl (teen/young adult) zoomed past us at high speed on the pavement and missed both us of us by a foot or so.

Incidentally, Fb reminded me that exactly 15 years ago I sold my '92 318is coupé which was one of the earliest in the country. Sadly, it ended up being a drift machine and scrapped. I later got a 318i 4dr Auto and later 320i coupé that was a delight to drive

Rare to see a earlyish unmolested E36 these days with original dealer plates. Almost basic spec 316i with unpainted bumpers and no fog lights

The highlight of yesterday's American Speedfest was seeing the life size Lightning McQueen and see my daughter's face light up. Had to come back to it 4 times! Despite the weather, there were some small spots of sun but she had fun and enjoyed a bit of Nascar race cars going round the track

Has anyone "upgraded" their classic car seats for more modern versions? I genuinely hate the seats on my E12, with no lateral support, slippery vinyl and not much comfort. I was thinking of adapting E36/39/60 seats (I would put older BMW seats but very hard to find in a cream colour).

Exactly 4 years ago, near Lisbon, Portugal, I saw my E12 for the first time since I sold it in 2004. It was in poor shape but I bought it and two months later it arrived on driveway in the UK. The rest is history and the restoration is still going on.

Her and a small team did an outstanding job that has had an enormous impact on our roads, in the UK and abroad.

Some work done today on my BMW E12. Corner sections on the sills were cut off and found only minimal and surface rust inside them. A few more bits cut off, but I foolishly broke my angle grinder and cutting disc, so my neighbour @liam_the_plumber lent me his to let me finish one last bit.

Tried my best at metal shaping, but not having a adequate place to do it and tools, I didn't get what I wanted. More hours of practice and essential tools needed, but it's a start. For now, to save time, I'll use parts of the two full length sills I got from France and arrived within 3 days.

Today I was at Beaulieu National Moto Museum for the Drive it Day event and it did not disappoint... so much that i got carried away and filmed most cars on display, resulting in a video lasting nearly and hour and a half. Video to will be up shortly on my YouTube channel shortly.

Today I did my first "origami" with metal to roughly create this rocker panel end on the E12. The wing bolts on top of it and therefore not visible, but as long as it's solid, that's all that matters.

Now this a rarity I spotted today, a Honda Fit Type R. Japan import, of course, so I wonder how many of these exist in the UK

Rustival 5 made me think: My 1st car, a '88 VW Polo felt old in 2001 but was just 13yrs old and launched in 1982... but 25 years later, I daily drive a 20yr old Focus launched in 2004. This means now I drive a car older than the one I had when I started driving! Who else is in the same situation?

One of the cars I greatly admired at Rustival 4, this 1981 Saab 99 Turbo. It was unbelievably immaculate and the owner (with his wife behind the car) bought it new in '81. When the car was getting on a bit, they sold another car to get this one restored. @grandthriftauto.bsky.social will love this
