one of the more satisfying macro photographs that I've taken in awhile ... Apache twig ants interacting while tending aphids, taken yesterday on the SDSU campus. one of my current ENT students pointed these out to me :)

Got lucky to find a few of these stunning Mourning cloaks in San Diego a few weeks ago. One of them cooperated for a nice portrait.

I've wanted a print of this incredible piece by Joe Furman for years and finally went ahead and ordered one off of his Fine Art America site to hang in my office. I love it SO much!

Got lucky with this awesome shot of a Southern Alligator Lizard (Elgaria multicarinata) two nights ago. I coaxed him a little into this defensive posture but he put on quite the show. I love these awesome lizards!

Better late than never! Here's a link to a calendar of my in-flight images. Full disclosure, this is the first time I'm using Printify. No idea about the print quality or costs, etc. If anyone orders one, let me know how it turns out and I can plan to do one for 2026!

It's been quite a while since I've done any in-flight images! We've had a quick warm spell here in so Cal and I managed to grab an easy target of a European honey bee that gave me a nice pose.

It finally rained in So Cal! So I went out and recorded a short binaural recording of the rain sounds. Might use it for backing on a youtube video or something but give it a listen if you like rain ASMR or falling asleep to the chorus :)

A lungless salamander (Bolitoglossa) crawling on a leaf in the forest floor in Honduras. As the name suggests, these amphibians lack lungs and rely on their skin for respiration. Many species also have webbed feet to assist movement in flooded or muddy areas... and for cuteness.

Another shot with the Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x. This is a beautiful crab spider (Thomisidae - probably a subadult male) blending in perfectly with a dead aster flower head.

I have a photo project coming up that requires some higher magnification so I finally got my hands on the Laowa 25mm 2.5-5x macro lens and have been playing with it for a week or so.

I joined Bluesky but haven't posted anything yet. So to change that, here's an image our local community magazine wanted to use as we're getting nearer to the Riverside Insect Fair. Always nice to have a cover image!
