Tired of Midnight Blue. Who hasn’t felt like this at some point? You don’t have to have been an ex-Beatle to have hit this state of mind from time to time! #extratexture50

Can’t Stop Thinking About You - a great track. Always loved this one. Gloomy? Yes. But still a cracker. #extratexture50

World of Stone sounds like a quintessential George song - both lyrically and musically; words of wisdom mixed with a fine melody. #extratexture50

‘While you attack and create offence, I put it all down to your ignorance’ has a distinct whiff of Dylan about it (not a bad thing). #extratexture50

‘Scan not a friend with a microscopic glass’ - incredibly wise words, that make more sense the older I get! #extratexture50

I’m glad we got the 2025 version of Free As A Bird for the improved Lennon vocals, but I’m convinced a better mix could have been achieved. I’d definitely have bumped up the prominence of the McCartney ghost vocal to support the (now) more obviously hesitant Lennon delivery.

Anyway - I think this a tremendous closer to the album. The Macca optimism is back after a very introspective and - at times - dark album. Fab. #Maccachaos20

This Never Happened Before. Strong song, but I doubt the wisdom of double-banking two piano ballads to close the album -and I prefer Anyway. I’d have substituted the b-side This Loving Game for this one. #Maccachaos20

I suspect lots of people hate Promise To You Girl, but I bloody love it. When the album came out I had an interminable commute in the car. I used to turn this one right up and bellow along with it to pass the time. Love the Queen-like vocals as well. #Maccachaos20

Follow Me - wasn’t this the one that was played on Parkinson years before the album came out? Always feels a bit more optimistic than many of the other tracks. #Maccachaos20

Riding to Vanity Fair. The Macca we never normally see. The closest he’s ever come to his own How Do You Sleep. Despite the vagueness in interviews, we all know who this is about. Godrich hits the mark with the strings again. #Maccachaos20

A Certain Softness. A nice enough track. Was this about Heather? #maccachaos20

Too Much Rain. The centrepiece of the album for me. Got me through many a rough day. Fab. #maccachaos20

English Tea - in which Macca takes the piss out of himself and produces another Beatles-strength ‘granny song’. Remember the Sunday Times review citing this as an example of why he’s a much more eccentric songwriter than ever given credit for. Wouldn’t have him any other way. #maccachaos20

Friends to Go. Now we’re cooking. The start of a run of tracks that wouldn’t have been out of place on a mid-period Beatles album. Don’t get the George influence that he cited, but this feels like it could have fitted in brilliantly on Rubber Soul. Love it. #Maccachaos20

At The Mercy. Macca - again - sounding genuinely vulnerable. Nice strings from Mr Godrich and a strong meditation on love and the randomness of life. #Maccachaos20

Jenny Wren - in which Macca - non too subtly - does Macca doing an acoustic bird song. But who cares when it’s as good as this? #Maccachaos20

How Kind of You. This really made my ears prick up on first listen. Tape loops, an unusually downbeat Macca, a song dripping in atmosphere… I think it’s a cracking track. Godrich was good for him - even if they butter heads and egos. #Maccachaos20

Hello. I made it! Fine Line - a statement of intent and a big change of sound from the more ragged sound of Driving Rain. The lyrics don’t make much sense, but it’s a solid opener. #Maccachaos20

In London today. Didn’t see ‘Tommy’ or his pals, but I did walk past Willem Dafoe on my way to The Cittie of Yorke pub, so a good afternoon all told.
