THE INCREDIBLE HULK debuted today in 1977. TV GUIDE's review reminds us many saw any attempt to depict a comics hero seriously on screen as illegitimate. "Bixby is painfully sincere about all this foolishness." HULK hammered at that wall; SUPERMAN took swings at it. BATMAN '89 finally broke through.

The Knight Errant books get nods in my latest, THE LIVING FORCE. Qui-Gon is said to be obsessed with legends of Jedi acting alone; Depa Billaba thinks back on a Jedi of legend who had to survive behind enemy lines; and Saesee Tiin muses about one of the era's crazy ships, clearly the Fire Lotus.

A fun day in Oxford, Mississippi today started with a reunion with Marshall Ramsey — my cartoonist colleague from The Daily Beacon at the University of Tennessee, later a Pulitzer-finalist editorial cartoonist. He’s now working with journalism students at Ole Miss; I got the chance speak to a class.

I was asked if my many book launches had led to any suggestions about release-week discipline for authors. Simple: Whenever you‘re tempted to read a review, stop immediately and go get a fudgesicle instead. (I didn’t say it was dietary discipline!)

Three days until the BATMAN: REVOLUTION novel hits — and did you know early scripts of BATMAN had Bruce/Batman racing to rescue Vicki from the Joker at a daylight bicentennial event? Joker's seemingly random visit in the film is a remnant. Get more bicentennial action in REVOLUTION on Tuesday!
