Just data, no judgement. I’ve tracked the same seven grocery items at the same store nearly every week for a year. As of yesterday, 1/23/26, it would have cost 2.74% more to buy this basket of groceries than it did the week the current president was sworn-in.

As of this posting, none of the first 11 headlines in my NYT feed includes the T word. It is a glorious afternoon to be alive.

The polling represented here was completed before ICE abducted a five-year-old child. I don’t imagine the 61% figure would be lower today. This foolishness must end.

This has been a spectacularly stupid day in American economic history.

When we invade a country and the president - any president - tells you it won’t cost us anything you should hold on to your wallet tightly.

The War Powers Act and the AUMF have been, generally speaking, failures at keeping presidents from making durable war. What is a better system?

The imperial presidency is bad, but hard to rein-in. My team likes the part of it that makes building things and systems possible. The other team likes the part that makes breaking stuff possible. Neither team wants to give up their part in exchange for long, drawn-out legislative processes.

Many things can be, and are, true at once. -Maduro is a bad man. -Many good Americans welcome this action for that reason. -There are long-term consequences for invading a sovereign nation. -Access to oil/resource profits are why we took did this. -This provides intra-party political cover.

I’m a mid-size city mayor. Reason, Liberty and Florida Trend magazines mail me a copy every month. Cato sends me stuff several times a year. I didn’t sign up for any of these. I’ve received exactly one liberal publication in three years. The Right is committed to deep messaging. My side is … not.

I don’t know what makes me more sad: That the president of the United States of America wrote what he did about the savage killing of a beloved private citizen, or that what he wrote is entirely consonant with what I’ve come to expect from him.

Since the week this president was sworn-in I’ve tracked the price of the same seven items at the same grocery (Publix at 13th and 39th, Gainesville) nearly every week. As of yesterday (11/21) that basket of groceries costs 8.81% more than it did on 1/20.

There are still absolute truths of modern western behavior. One of them is that the guys wearing the swastika are the bad guys. Every time.

We use the word “customer” too much. It’s lazy and often inaccurate.

There will be a point when it will be hard to find elected officials who want to admit they ever supported the current guy. Take screen shots of headlines to prove it, and don’t let them forget.

Don’t forget that this guy whose name appears in all those emails BULLDOZED THE EAST WING OF THE WHITE HOUSE. Illegally. Because he wanted to. (And exposed everyone working at and around the building to asbestos dust in the process.)
