Another part of Marvel shutting down the Visual Development Team is that Marvel got extremely restrictive of the work the team could show AFTER a project was released. So this brilliant team could barely show and advertise the work they did. Making a layoff like this even worse.

Reference vs Art Personally I hardly ever paint anything without proper shapes and lighting previously defined in 3D. Speeds up my process by several days and I find I get the best results when I have a clear ref of how stuff is supposed to look realistically.

I'm starting to get very sick and tired of this epidemic of art schools that promise you will become a capable concept artist AND illustrator or 3D artist or animator or whatever in 6 fucking months. No you won't. They're preying on the dreams of kids for a fortune.

Controversial opinion time but I'm sick of art schools doing "illustration and concept art" courses as if those weren't two separate career paths that deserved undivided study to master. At this point just make a "paint on the computer" course and call it a day.
