I’m feeling quite adventurous today 😆 #sewing my first Uvita Top (Itch to Stitch) I didn’t have any fusible stay tape for the shoulder seams so I improvised and used whatever I had at hand. It’s not perfect and quite bulky, so let’s call it a design choice: add triple topstitch in this bold colour

Almost there. Thumbnail created and my reflection on advent handspinning written. I just need to finish some details and style my website a bit. I'm looking forward to being done with it 😃 To this day I’m still surprised every time by how much longer things take than expected.

I’ve been on a break from fibre arts since finishing the advent handspinning journey. I’m taking some time to organise my thoughts and develop my creative workflows for my future adventures. I’m also writing a blog post about my advent spinning experience and creating a thumbnail for it. 😊

It‘s so nice to see all 25 World of Wool advent spins at once 😊 #handspinning

For the 25th and final World of Wool advent spin, I went for a wild combination of opposing, Hawser, and cable plying — because why not? 😆 The design and colours gave the final 4-ply yarn a lovely rustic, rich look. #handspinning

I’m so proud of the 24th World of Wool advent spin 😊 It’s a chained crepe yarn, and I challenged myself to spin the second singles thicker than the one being chain-plied. It turned out perfect, so soft and lofty, and I wouldn’t change a thing. #handspinning #spinsky

The next experiment was what I call an opposing crepe yarn. 😁 For the 23rd WoW advent spin, I spun the first two singles in the opposite direction to get an opposing 2-ply, which I then plied with a third singles to get a balanced 3-ply yarn. I'm very happy with how the yarn feels. #handspinning

I was deep in yarn design experimentation mode before I started the 22nd World of Wool advent spin. I’d realised there were not enough advent spins left for all of my ideas — oops 😬 So it was the perfect time for the first opposing 3-ply yarn in these lovely colours. #handspinning

I was quite intimidated by the 21st WoW advent spin due to the chunks of sari silk. So, logically, I challenged myself even more by making my first singles yarn 😁 I felted it slightly during wet finishing (another first!), and I’m very satisfied with the result. #handspinning

It was time to go back to experimenting! For the 20th advent spin, I went for a crepe yarn with a twist: instead of a standard 2-ply, I Hawser-plied the first two singles. The yarn turned out beautiful — very soft and surprisingly thin. I was really pleased with this #handspinning experience. 🤩

For the 19th WoW advent spin, I wanted something simple, so I took a break from experimenting with yarn designs and went with a 3-ply yarn. What I love about this spin is how it kept me distracted and helped me organize my thoughts, even though the fiber composition wasn’t my favorite. #handspinning

The 18th WoW advent fiber with cashgora was incredibly soft. I wanted to make a crepe yarn by first plying two woolen-spun singles and then adding a worsted-spun single. I didn’t want too many leftovers, so the planning was quite a challenge! It turned into a really fun experiment. #handspinning

For the 17th WoW advent spin, I took out 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳’𝘴 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘠𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴 by Sarah Anderson. I felt refreshed and was really looking forward to experimenting.⁣ I started with a 2×2 Hawser ply, and it went really well. I’m so happy that the advent #handspinning felt joyful again.

The 16th WoW advent spin was another one I wanted to finish as fast as possible. I’d reached the point where I desperately wanted to do other crafts. That made it even more surprising when the yarn exceeded my expectations — so much that it motivated me to continue #handspinning. 🥳

The 15th WoW advent spinning is definitely my favorite color — it reminds me of blueberries (I looove blueberries!). 🫐 Spinning-wise, I gave cabled yarn another go. This time I chain-plied a 2-ply handspun, and I’m very pleased with the result, despite it being slightly over-twisted. #handspinning

Honestly, I don’t have much to say about the 14th WoW advent #handspinning. I’m not sure if it’s because it was the first one I spun after Christmas or because the advent spinning had become somewhat routine and monotonous at times. But I love the subtle sparks of color anyway!

The 13th WoW advent #handspinning marked the halfway point, so I decided to spin one singles woolen from faux rolags and the second worsted from combed top. I also finally (and painfully!) learned that worsted spinning with waste sari silk is just way too hard on my hands.

The 12th WoW advent #handspinning was time for my first-ever cabled yarn. I was so excited that I spun all the singles in one afternoon — it was such a smooth spinning experience. The yarn has slightly too much twist, but I’m very happy with the result anyway. 😃

Happy new year! The 11th fiber blend from the WoW advent calendar was such a joyful and quick spin — the yarn turned out wonderful and has a lovely color. #handspinning

I love the golden color of the red eri silk fibers in the 10th spin from the WoW advent calendar. The yarn didn't want to be spun thick, so it took ages to finish. The poor candle from another advent calendar gave up during plying — the glass broke from the heat. 😁 #handspinning

First time spinning from the fold! It was so much easier to spin a fiber blend this way. The 9th spin from the WoW advent calendar was a quick and easy one. Sadly, I felt so frustrated when my single broke during chain plying. #handspinning

The eighth WoW advent calendar spin took a really long time. Still, I discovered the joy of the short backward draw. I found it easier than the short forward draw when #handspinning this merino–silk blend. And I fell in love with chain plying — it’s starting to feel like a breeze. 😃

The seventh fiber blend from the WoW advent calendar was inspired by potatoes. And the resulting yarn „screams“ mashed potatoes. I dared to try a long draw (well, kind of 😂) and I’m glad I did it. It was way easier on my hands. #handspinning

I'm delighted with how the sixth spin from the WoW advent calendar turned out. Although it was still challenging in terms of pain, seeing the finished yarn made me incredibly happy and proud. #handspinning

The fifth fiber blend from the WoW advent calendar was the most difficult one so far, mentally. I started feeling some pain from #handspinning while I was under (self-imposed) pressure to finish all the spins timely. The result is a relatively thick yarn, with much regret that I was pushing through.

They said sanding was dusty and messy … meanwhile my sewing room is covered with lint. #sewing

First time spinning pineapple and banana fibers - so exciting! It was nice watching the colors blending together and I like how it turned out. #handspinning

The third handspun from the WoW fibre advent calendar is my favorite one so far. The fiber blend was incredibly soft and so inviting to be spun. I loved spinning every centimeter of it. #handspinning

The second handspun yarn from the WoW fibre advent calendar. Slightly thinner than the first one at 12 WPI. I found the bits of waste sari silk quite challenging for spinning. Overall I had a lovely time spinning it. #handspinning
