New (very used) car has a sunroof that is stuck open. Repair requires removing the headliner. One of the steps of removing the headliner is to remove the footstep plate at the bottom of each of the four door frames. This is the sort of thing I hate about fancy cars.

My ex-tenant's felony charges for theft and assault against me have been joined by many more for breaking into and robbing another storage unit, carrying a gun and ammo without a license, etc. He's being held as a danger to the public pending trials. Hopefully they put him away.

It's common for defense attorneys in court here to enumerate the reasons the defendant is a person the law shouldn't apply to. This week I heard one person described as a father of three, aged 7 months, 19 months, 2 years. Assuming one mother, she's been busy!

Today in the 7-figure lawsuit re selling my house: Final attempt to confer with the other parties on my next motions: 1. Strike, dismiss, or sever my co-defendant and their claims. 2. Judgment on the pleadings or summary judgment on the claims preventing sale of the house.

Today in criminal court: My ex-tenant (who is in jail) for stealing tens of thousands of dollars of my stuff and threatening and assaulting me. Me for being at the courthouse within 50 yards of my other ex-tenant with a restraining order against me, when we had a hearing there.

Superior Court unexpectedly gave me a hearing date later this month. There's time before then to get some motions filed (the process takes weeks in this court), so I guess today is Motion Drafting Day! (This doesn't advance the state of the case, that's still not til January.)

Canceling my January/February plans now that the big lawsuit has been delayed three more months. It sucks to not know whether I'll be free next spring or summer to make plans for then, even.

Latest MA courts nonsense: After being rescheduled twice, the judge declined to hear my motion to compel that was filed in June because the other side provided some discovery in October.

I gave up on my motion to compel discovery to avoid another month of delay in the seven figure civil case keeping me trapped. Now we can *maybe* have the next step in the case... in 3 more months.

Is there a QALY-like metric that accounts for how long you can remember them? One hour of unimaginable pain might significantly reduce my QALYs. Is the reduction the same if I can't remember it at all afterward, such as due to amnestic drugs or just shock response?

Today's laundry puzzle. Hand washing this disc binder wasn't difficult, just time consuming to get into all the plastic-cloth-plastic pocket layers. Drying required a bit of brainstorming.

Some time 2-24 months from now I'll be free of the lawsuit trapping me here. I'll have between $500k in debt and $1.5M in profit. I'll only get a few weeks notice of when and how much. I wish I could afford the services of professionals to improve the timeline or outcomes.

As much as I complain about delays of 2-6 weeks in Housing Court and 2-3 months in Superior Court, they don't hold a candle to the MA Appeals Court. The last brief in my case was filed in April. We don't even know yet *if* there will be oral arguments, let alone when.

It took four weeks for my new court-appointed attorney, who I've never met, to return my phone call in advance of the 10/10 hearing. I bet it's going to be another continuance. How many times do I have to appear in court before I can show the video of me not committing the crime?

Half-way through my first cruise ship experience, Virgin from NYC to Quebec. As expected, it's a low end luxury resort hotel that moves. The staff are friendly. The food ranges from mediocre to great, but is mostly spiced for the American palate. Ditto for the shows.

Bad news / Good news: Glass over my phone camera lens broke. I noticed before the lens was damaged. It happened just before a trip. The repair kit shipped to the first trip stop. The lens was chipped in the intervening two days. I restored 90%+ camera quality with a sharpie!

I'll soon drop below 1 court date per week, on average. Getting a job, or doing some freelance work, is starting to look at least slightly tenable. That doesn't preclude outliers. This month I have one day with 3 cases in 2 cities, and next month 3 cases in 1 city in 1 week.

I really like the idea of the story for Detroit: Become Human, but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out the quicktime event controls. Swapping WASD for arrows helped some, but I'm still frequently confused at what action it wants me to take. A tutorial would be nice.

One of my superpowers is that anything people do wrong in a conversation that I start ends up getting blamed on me. Doesn't matter if it's face to face, chat room, forum, mailing list, whatever. This leads to people acting out in my conversations in ways they wouldn't elsewhere.

Many trends that have continued over the history of civilization are going to reverse as soon as we have a colony on Mars or even the moon. We assume travel and communication only get faster. As soon as we have comm lag of hours or months travel time, that all changes.

Faced with a drowning person and a single-use life preserver labeled "private property", do you know anyone who wouldn't steal the life preserver and throw it to the drowning person?

Is there a standard GDP-like stat that excludes waste? e.g. Americans buy heavy cars for safety, but we would be safer with all lighter cars. All that extra steel and manufacturing is a net negative. I want to know GDP minus that waste. Ditto overpaying for healthcare, etc.

I've had one long term partner with the same level of geekiness as me, one my age, one my height, and one sharing my sex drive. I honestly cannot decide which of these shared features is the most important overall.

Is there a professional/scientific consensus on how to designate "native" plants and animals during climate shifts? If a plant or animal moves as its ideal weather moves, is it "native" in the new place?

Life update: Broke. Unemployed. ~$5k/mo of new debt. Romantically happy. Post-fire house sale lawsuit trial likely in 2026. Mortgage foreclosure more imminent. One squatter left, two gone. One in jail with multiple felony charges. Growing hope of future travels and/or projects.

No constitutional right is more protected when adding an intermediary: If you can pay someone to publish your words, you can publish them yourself. If you can pay someone to get a gun for you, you can buy that gun. I need search terms/phrases to find precedent on this concept.

The level of respect and warmth I have felt from court security guards has been a roller coaster as I progressed from eviction landlord (low) to restraining order defendant (very low) to restraining order plaintiff (moderate) to felony victim (very high).

What is the most common thing that it is impossible to succeed at consistently but people keep doing it anyway? Not something based purely on chance like gambling. I'm looking for things that the most skillful person in the world will succeed at <50% of the time when they try.
