States could slow ICE's roll. Every state has training standards and accreditation bodies for law enforcement. If one doesn't meet those standards, they can't function as a sworn officer. States need to (slowly) vet feds to work on their soil. 47 days training isn't enough. Yep, wishful thinking.

A long time ago, when I was a young buck, I was a cop. Early on in that stint, I was dragged by vehicles on 3 occasions. I didn't shoot anyone. Instead, I got with training & policy and rewrote the SOPs so cops wouldn't put themselves into those situations. She should still be alive today.

In ANY situation, even a war zone, you cannot have an expectation of a "rational response" that you, the gunman, expects. People DO NOT react rationally when confronted by masked gunmen. Training, empathy, and softness (as well as proper communication) reduces this problem. That agent needs prison.

I'm generally reticent about commenting on law enforcement shootings. I'll make an exception here: This was a blatant failure of vetting, training, tactics, and mindset. IF the agent really felt he was in danger, it was his own fault re: positioning. That woman should be alive right now... 🧵
