Readers! Where do you find books? I’m trying to find my readers for my short story collections (ghost stories), which is a bit of a niche interest so it’s a challenge finding where readers are. How do you find new books to read? Where do you go to look for new releases, something a bit different?

The biggest challenge writing a collection of ghost stories set at Christmas and mostly set during the Little Ice Age or in Iceland is finding more and more ways to describe a) night time and b) snow. There are only so many beautiful, artistic ways to say “it was snowing”! 😆

This morning I decided to get the shorter and quicker of two short stories needing written up done. 🤣🤣🤣 Oh, you sweet summer child. The Scottish story requires an understanding of early modern Scottish religion!!! Hours later, I’ve just about managed to write a sentence or two…!

We’re at our local hospital today waiting for my son to get grommets, and I’ve brought my Kobo all loaded up with books, but as ever at times like this, I can’t concentrate on them. I’m the same at airports - if I’m waiting for a plane I can read websites or magazines but I struggle with books.

I was late for the school run this morning because i was watching Go Jetters with my son. As in, I was properly watching it - I was very invested in how they were going to rescue the little pig and interested in the place they were visiting too!

I haven’t managed to find a pumpkin spice latte while out yet, but instead my first taste of pumpkin spice this year was this amazing pumpkin spice coffee cake from The Olde House Tearoom. It was amazing, what a great idea!

This morning, I rushed out to take my son to dance class and forgot his water bottle - luckily there was a fruit shoot in the car. I remembered to clutch my half-drunk morning coffee the entire time and bring that with me though! I’m a bad mother….. 🤦‍♀️☕️

I introduced my son to the Romans yesterday, or I tried to! He wasn’t super interested in most of it, he just wanted to follow the folklore creatures trail that English Heritage had set up, but he was a bit freaked out by the strigil, which he said was “too scary”!

Although I’ve been busy getting out and about while the sun shines, I will be doing some work before the summer is out! I’ll be selling and signing books at the Birmingham Book Extravaganza on the bank holiday Monday. The last one was a great event, hope to see you there!

Took the boy to the Kinver Edge Rock Houses today - we’ve been many times before and know our way around, but he never gets tired of them :) and there was a cool book trail to follow for the summer holidays, thanks to the @nationaltrust.org.uk volunteers.

We went to the Black Country Living Museum yesterday and said hello to the pigs at my favourite house, a small cottage and farm. My cousin works there and one December, I asked her where the pigs had gone. Thinking about it the answer should have been obvious. It was a very yummy Christmas sandwich…

Have spent ages researching a YouTube video about the book vs film vs tv versions of Picnic at Hanging Rock, only to find someone did a book vs film video on it only 4 weeks ago. The world needs more than one of those, right?…right?! (I’m not scrapping it now!)

If people are going to start talking to chatbots as if they were real people (historical or otherwise) I think the Star Trek TNG episodes about Geordi LaForge and Leah Brahms might need to become required school viewing.

I neglect Bluesky for weeks, then pop back in for two minutes and I’m out £25 for a book. This is why I keep abandoning Bluesky for weeks on end…!

Today I learned of the existence of Summerween, which I am very excited about as someone who is trying to sell ghost stories, ghostly merch and get people watching spooky YouTube videos through a heatwave 😆 my second short story collection may hit the right combination of spooky and summer vibes…

My first order of bookmarks to tie in with my books has arrived! :) I designed them using the beautiful cover art Sam Basnett Illustration did for the books. I’ll be giving these away at my next in person signing and selling event at the Birmingham Book Extravaganza on the August Bank Holiday.

Picked up Lush’s bath bomb Liberation, which is raising money for organisations that support trans commmnities, and can confirm it smells amazing - looking forward to using it!

I am selling my wares at the lovely Lightwoods House and Garden in Birmingham today! Right next to my lovely friend who first alerted me to the book extravaganza and opposite the National Trust and a lovely garden view, I couldn’t have asked for better!
