Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the far eastern Atlantic. This system is currently projected by various models to stay out in the Atlantic, even though it will approach the US mainland next week. We have a long time to watch the evolution of this storm.

It’s another extra colorful sunset in Indy (and most of the Midwest) with all of the Canadian wildfire smoke in the air. #inwx

A severe geomagnetic storm has developed. Another aurora is likely tonight into Monday morning (June 1-2).

Why all of the smoke/haze in the air right now? Over 180 active wildfires are burning in Canada, half of which are classified as out of control. The upper air pattern has brought it back into the USA. It’s clearly visible on satellite imagery today. 5/31/25

7:45 PM - as of this posting all local NE Wisconsin weather warnings have expired. There are still some storms with lots of lightning and gusty winds but the severe threat is quickly waning as the storms push to the northeast.

It’s super nice out today but be mindful of the dangerous fire conditions!!!

Be extra mindful of the elevated wildfire conditions that will be present again on Sunday… and probably Monday too. Your best bet is to refrain from any outdoor burning.

FIRST ALERT: our next big weathermaker will be a potent cold front late Thursday or Thursday night. A batch of strong to severe storms remains possible. We’ll keep watching things over the next few days so stay tuned.
