The broken rental market must be brought under control. In parts of my constituency, homes are being turned into HMO bedsits at an alarming rate, so landlords can charge even more rip-off rents. I called on Government to look again at the evidence on rent controls.

Nearly 1 million young people are not in education, employment or training. We cannot accept that as the new normal. In Parliament, I asked how the Government will measure the success of its plans to tackle this ā and how our systems must adapt as AI transforms the world of work.

Rentersā rights shouldnāt come with a price tag. Today I challenged the Government over reports renters could face fees to contest unfair rent rises. This would deter those who need help the most and allow rogue landlords to evade accountability.

Endless rent rises are pushing people to the brink, and fuelling more homes being bought up by investors. Housing is for homes, not for someone elseās asset or second income. Itās time for solutions that permanently lower rents.
