WOOHOO! My very first APOD ( Nasa’s Astronomy Photo of the Day) I am so pleased and honoured that the APOD team selected my crazy plasma time lapse. It was a pretty unusual sight. They rarely float in the air ( err, I mean space….) like that.

My first totally analog photo print! I took the picture with a zero 45 pinhole camera at 50 mm with 4 x 5 black and white sheet film . I develop the film at home and then used the film negative to print a cyanotype in the sunshine!!

Blackberry Anthotype I have had this image outside in the sun since February with a negative on top of a paper coated in blackberry juice. It came in earlier than planned due to a sudden snowstorm still, I’m quite pleased with it and I think I’ll start another blackberry image ASAP

Chasing the dawn eclipse Wedecided to leave at 3 am and drive up the coast of the magnificent Bay of Fundy, known for the highest tides in the world. Glad we did! ( PS my husband is a saint for driving 5 hours that day!)

Good bye to the evening star! Near inferior conjunction, Venus is big bright, close to Earth and a lovely thin crescent. Occurring only every 2 years capturing Venus at this elusive and fantastic phase has been a goal of mine for a long time. So pleased.

Was a busy night on Saturday and not the best seeing but a good refresher on how to set everything up . The moon was out but planetary imaging is not affected by the moonlight and the moon lets me get well focussed before I slew over to the planets.

Messier 82- Some galaxies are especially good at generating bright new stars and have so much galactic dust and gas that they create stars at a furious rate. M82 is also called the “Cigar galaxy” due the red glow of Hydrogen “smoke” emanating from its galactic core.Imaged from my Ottawa backyard.

Find a Dark sky (ideally the city glow is to the north and west) outside the city and dress warmly for the Geminids meteor Shower. Tonight and tomorrow night will be the best and we may actually get some clear skies in Ottawa.
