Over the last couple of years I've found it super hard to concentrate on doing one thing. The only way I get through stuff is by doing 20 things and eventually everything gets done. Perhaps a hangover from constant notifications and distractions that's got my brain working this way?

I have now upgraded to custom art cards for my paper prototype, a nifty health & movement tracker and Google dice. Still keeping the constraints to just a standard pack of cards & a D6 but have now included two "jokers".

I love the fact that statistically, no one has ever [truly] shuffled a deck of cards in the same order. The chance of shuffling a deck in the same order is 52! or 8×10^67 (8 with 67 ‘0’s after it). Next time you shuffle a deck of cards, whisper to it that its a unique, strong, independent deck.

We've had 17 animation & game dev job applications & internship requests since the 1st of January. Lots of people looking for work this year. Tertiary education places seem to be graduating roughly around 50 - 80 people collectively year on year. I just don't think our industry can keep up!

Constraints are a game designers best friend. Came up with a game over the holidays just using a pack of cards and a D6. It's been so helpful keeping the game design within those limits. Makes decision making A LOT easier! Hoping to now convert it into a digital game, but still keep those limits.

Permadeath is something I really disliked when first playing Noita. I felt it was too harsh, too punishing. I couldn't understand the appeal why you wouldn't make a checkpoint or a save feature. But permadeath has weirdly grown on me. I see why people like it now. It's a fresh challenge each time.

Games I'd really like to make this year: 🎲 Dice game with cats that attack, defend, heal & special abilities. 🃏 A deck-builder where you can always discard a card for money/gold. 🖱️Clicker/idle game where you attack enemies by clicking and can setup infantry to do your attacking/defending for you.

In 2023 we made 12 games in roughly 12 months. In 2024, we tried to do something different! Instead of making new games, what if we took one of our existing prototypes and remade it 6 times (keeping the good stuff and throwing out the bad stuff).

I can be quite a late adopter when it comes to technology. Somehow the stars aligned and I've been able to jump into Rive in what might be considered 'the early days'. The best part of joining early has been the amount of features that get rolled out on a consistent basis. A new one dropped today!
