Just started this "Best of..." and the first story I couldn't even get halfway. It's not even a story IMO. But the last one by Joe Hill is a chef's kiss. I jumped to the end because I've been told that first and last are the best stories in an anthology, and... well, I'm digging Joe Hill these days.

It might be lame and inevitably unmaintainable, but I'm going to start buying books from Barnes & Noble and cancel my Amazon Audible account. I know they are a big company too, but at least they have local brick-and-mortar stores. Also, I've seen them support local authors with in-store events.

I use M dashes sometimes. Not a lot but it’s not that hard with scrivener. Just type two regular dashes and at least in my current setup, it covers to M dash. And no, I don’t use AI to write for me. I use grammar checker but I turn off anything AI.

Polished up, renamed a short story to "Space Crusader," and submitted to the Q4 for the "Writers of the Future" contest. Let's hope I get a "silver" honorable mention this time.

The first fifty pages of "King Sorrow" were kind of slow for me, but after that, it's been pretty good for me so far. I'm on page 100.

I finished @limealicious.bsky.social 's Blood Standard last night, and it was a great novel! To mix it up, I'm trying to read a romance novel now. We shall see how far I get.

I wrote a short story, "No Tongue Please," for the Gotham short story class I'm in right now, and although I enjoyed writing it, I'm not thinking it will land with most folk. That's okay. Someday, I'll get it and write something amazing. Now, I'm just working on my million garbage words.

Taking Short Story II from Gotham led by Tom Cooper. Some wonderful writing. And then there’s mine. But I’m hoping some of the talent rubs off on me.

I find reading one book at a time problematic. I’m a slow reader so in order to get exposure to all the authors I’m interested in I can’t just read one book to completion before starting another.

Also reading this book on self-editing and although it repeats some stuff I’ve read before, it adds from the perspective of editing. The big helper is emphasizing RUE, Resist the Urge to Explain. Another way of saying show don’t tell.

Also started reading The Exorcist, Nevermore and Red Shirts. The last by @scalzi.com is quite fun thus far. The other two are quite different books but interesting.

I got to ask @rdansky.bsky.social questions about writing fiction and RPG world building last night on his first Patreon call for his top fanboys and girls. It was awesome and I learned sooo much!
