I’m in Collinsville, OK which is about 30 minutes from Inola. We have a Superfund site here from an old zinc smelter that shut down 100 HUNDRED YEARS AGO. There are ongoing cancer clusters in the nearby neighborhoods. It’s infuriating this is even being considered.

Century Aluminum wants to build a new smelter in Oklahoma. In other states: • Residents reported headaches, nosebleeds • Regulators cited pollution violations • The company paid to settle claims Now Inola residents are raising concerns. Our latest:

7. There is a river that runs through Inola. And feeds into the Vertigris River. These pollutants will flow downstream.

Why am I so worried about the Inola smelter? Part 3 6. Inola is the Hay capital of the world. It has dairy farms and produces other products that go out into the state. If we pollute this area, we are polluting our states food.

Why am I so worried about the Inola smelter? Part 2 4. We haven’t built an aluminum smelter in 50 years, instead we have been closing them. Why? They gobble electricity and are horrible for the environment. 5. This will pollute the town of Inola and endanger the people who live there.

Why am I so worried about the Inola smelter? 1. All PSO residential customers will face a 16% rate increase. 2. All PSO business customers will face an even larger increase. 3. This smelter will gobble enough electricity to power a city of a million people.
