First tried Caves of Qud back in 2022 but didn't have a numpad at the time and bounced off pretty quick. Been hearing how good the controller support has got and jumped back in on steam deck this week. 1.0 is everything I've heard it was and more. What an intoxicating world, believe the hype!

You know Lumines Arise / Tetris Effect has burrowed in to your brain, when you start finding excuses to put particles everywhere. Fonts? Particles. UI? Particles. Save system? Particles. Sound effects? Particles. Input system? Particles. There isn't much game left but fuck it. Particles!

Hell yeah. LLMs weren't there. It never lugged a crt, tower and cables to a LAN party. It never felt the spark of curiosity required to set up a first server with pals. It never furrowed it's brow trying to break through a problem, it's got no brow and no sweat equity. It has nothing real to offer.

Given the current state of the world, FOSS creative tools are such a bright light. To have Godot, Blender (et al) on par with paid 'industry standards' is a truly incredible thing that should never be taken for granted. Salutes to everyone who contributes, however big or small! #godot #blender

If devs are carpenters, then tech bosses are failing the final test from Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade. They undervalue the humble wooden cup, too weak to resist the pull of the shiny new chalice and an impossible promise of endless growth. Alas, that fake grail is poisoned and spells their doom.

Oh man. I forget about Godot's instance uniforms sometimes. Just simplified some messy nested materials I was duplicating at runtime and now drive multiple changes to 1 base material and 1 overlay material with the same instance parameter. Less draw calls + more variation, for ~zero effort. #godot

PropertyUsageFlags and get_property_list() have become some of my absolute favourite tools in Godot. All my player prefs, game progress, persistent stats etc live in RefCounted classes which can neatly gather their state into dictionaries at runtime. Makes saving a breeze. #godot #godotengine

Given that LLMs are based on breakthroughs in Transformer architecture, its extra disappointing that the bulk of their output is Sloptimus Crime

They seem to be speed running a return to the time when people shuddered upon seeing the Unity splash screen, because it was slapped on so much cynical low effort asset flip slop. So much good faith torched in a short amount of time. The coffin is full of nails but they won't stop lining them up.

Anyone wearing these in public needs to be met with the same grace you'd extend to an individual walking round with a full size CCTV camera strapped to their dome

I love how versatile Godot's spatial shaders / standard material 3D are. Recently I've stripped out quite a bit of complexity in my shader code simply by finding the right combo of render modes. It's not my strongest area, but Godot makes it so easy to learn through experimentation. #GodotEngine
