Treponemal diseases might have been with us much longer than previously thought! In our recent study, we used ancient DNA to reconstruct a 5,500-year-old ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข ๐ฑ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ช๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฎ genome, revealing a previously unknown divergent subspecies. You can check it out here:
