I wish there were more, vibrantly active, open source arena shooters. OpenArena slaps, but nobody plays it anymore.

Debating whether to use the Mobile or Forward+ Renderer in Godot. The only features we would be missing with our workflow is volumetric fog (minor) and TAA. Would losing TAA for only FXAA and MSAA be worth it for the 30% performance differential to you? #godot #gamedev #indiedev

WOAH. Finally got around to using my Chunk Rendering system in the actual game, and boy howdy did it shoot performance up. ATM (with no enemies placed in the level, so there will be more overhead), I am getting 1000 fps at 1080p on an RTX 3060. #gamedev #indiedev #godot #blender

We heavily refactored Rosie's code. About 20 man hours, but the restructuring allowed us to fix some pretty annoying bugs. We also reduced it from 2000 lines to about 400. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Got it to work! Here's my new baking workflow: 1. Model a large level mesh 2. Use a geonode model to apply textures based on normals 3. Use geonode to make a Chunk Divider/ AutoUnwrap UV 4. Run script that duplicates and applies chunk values. 5. Bake #gamedev #indiedev #blender #godot

I need some help from some blender gurus. In GeoNodes, I'm trying to make a chunk system to split my level apart for baking. I have my chunk IDs as an integer attribute. Why in a Repeat Node can I not plug the iteration field into the ID selection. I can do it manually. #blender #gamedev

Concept: A fixed camera horror game that prerenders backgrounds and only includes ray tracing on areas that have real time shadows. Imagine just having a random corner of the room with a jostling curtain and the surrounding polygons in a small radius while the rest is static. #gamedev #indiedev

Ok, I think I've figured it out. I made a global script that emits different signals every 5, 15, and 30 frames. I connect those signals to the top of each script. I execute a main script when the signal is received. Boom, reduced refresh rates for optimization! #gamedev #indiedev #godot

It likely will not be in the demo, but I'd love to figure out how to run at lower tickrates on some scripts. Like, right now we update 60 times per second. Audio changes and other effects might only need to updates at 15 ticks/ second. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Ended up being frustrated with Godot's spacial audio, so I coded my own. It lets me set a range, change the falloff curve, set it as a oneshot, and makes it triggerable via code (as an option). In the editor, I have a custom listening tool for player simulation. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Is there a way to force the editor to use an in scene AudioListener3D as opposed to the viewport camera's built in audio listener? It's kind of impossible to balance audio in a 2.5d game. My gut says to make a Listener tool, but it won't let me in the editor. #gamedev #indiedev #godot

I find how different people code to be interesting. I am what I just have always called a "linguistic coder". It flows like a series of verbal logic puzzles with detailed descriptors for each variable. Some of yall's code scares me with it's numbers and x variables. #gamedev #indiedev #godot
