I think I'm in grumpy old man shaking a stick at the world mode tonight, but damn, if your game isn't actually remotely playable if installed on an old fashioned HD and not an SSD, something should warn you in the install process. Waste of time otherwise and a terrible player experience.

I think I don't mind a review site lowering a score based on moral grounds, but I do then expect them to be consistent. Otherwise it's more just click-bait than an actual stand. Large publishers currently promote their use of various AI techs. I'd expect all their games to be treated the same way

This NFL season continues to be absolutely confounding. From week to week the same team can swerve from looking like utter garbage to playoff caliber, while the perennial playoff contenders look awful dropping games to unexpected teams.

Last game of the season here in Sweden, so a final home game for Hamnarby against Elfsborg. Guaranteed 2nd place already, so another European adventure to look forward to next year. Been a fun year even if they couldn’t quite scale the summit.

Yeah, I definitely have the ARC Raiders bug. GOTY territory for me. Can't recall the last time a game has me itching for 'one more run' as much as this one. Gorgeous game, brilliantly designed and executed. It has even done the impossible, and has me *happily* using voice coms with strangers.

The more I play ARC Raiders, the more impressed I am with the design of the ARC themselves. Their behavior, the way they interact with the physics sim and weapon impacts, really make them feel 'real'. Constantly forcing players to consider their situation, creating cool timing windows for reaction

Was watching the new season of Star Wars Visions. Happily enjoying the anime #StarWars vibes. Then the last episode queued up. Wow. Just wow. Possibly the most original thing that has ever been allowed to be done with the galaxy far, far, away? Visual animated jazz? Weird, sublime, superb.

This is such a nice clean flowing sculpt. Dammit, I'm going to be tempted by the new Warhammer Quest box aren't I?

Ok, ARC Raiders is just ridiculously gorgeously lit. Also, a great lesson in why atmospherics and lighting matter if you really want to use time of day to help extend or alter the game-play experience on your maps. This one is quickly creeping into GOTY territory for me.

Spent the morning at Stockholm Comic-con. Had fun wandering around and seeing all the geeky goodness. My wallet did survive relatively unscathed too, a bonus!

Finding that the extension of this is that if a game doesn't immediately grab me and make we want to play it again after a first session or two, I'm probably not going back. Outer Worlds 2 has suffered from this for me this weekend. I'm just having more fun with ARC Raiders.

We double dipped on finding the new bagel place yesterday and brought some home so I could make some brunch bagels today too. Egg, bacon, halloumi, and hashbrown came together nicely.

Starting up Outer Worlds 2 and feel like having a literal dumb playthrough. I'm going to try to play it as a smooth talking idiot. Let's see how this goes. It'll be fine. I'm sure of it. (I am loving the early options to make very bad jokes that the 'dumb' trait unlocks 🤣)

Was lucky to see this in its limited theatrical release earlier in the month, but I'll happily watch again when Netflix release it on the 7th. A great adaptation, superbly cast, one of Del Toro's best films for me, and I don't say that lightly.

Spent some time today with Fotografiska’s 15th anniversary exhibit. It’s a place I love to go when the creative battery needs a little recharging. Never fails to inspire something. We became members last year to both support it, and so I could go whenever I needed the creative itch scratched.

My wife found a new bagel place in Stockholm, and we had some time off this morning, so some very tasty bagels were experienced. Good bagels are rarer here, so this was a great find. 🥯

I really like the aesthetic of the world they have crafted for ARC Raiders. I haven't been a huge extraction fan up until now, but this one has something a little special to it. Even more unexpected, I'm actually finding it 50/50 whether other players attack first or ask to pass by or group up.

But playing Remix, having BF6 gnawing at my attention, and ARC Raiders and Outer Worlds 2 releasing this week, let alone a raft of cool indies I really want to spend time with, really starts to drive home that there simply isn't enough time for it all. Just not enough free time for all this.

I missed the Pandaria Remix for WoW, but I have had a chance to play the new Legion Remix for the last week. It's an interesting, and very compulsive, power fantasy way to replay old content. Have had a blast with it, and have new lvl 80s of classes I probably wouldn't have played otherwise.

Some good games in that old ad, but I spent so much time with Deluxe Paint 3 Went on to use it in college to add titles and motion graphics to film school projects since the Amiga had the rare ability to plug straight into the old S-Video (SHVS) mixing desks we worked with pre digital editing.

This might be the weirdest NFL season in years. Who is actually good? Who is actually bad? Changes week to week it seems. Even when you think you're sure, like how bad my Dolphins are, you'll see someone make em look good. It's living up to the old 'Any given Sunday' cliche for sure this year.

Was lucky to get to go to one of the handful of showings here in Stockholm of @realgdt.bsky.social’s Frankenstein adaptation at Bio Rio. Up there with his very best work. Beautiful, haunting, brilliantly cast and played. Well worth your time.

Did I spend part of my evening playing Fortnite's K-Pop Demon Hunter event using my Gorillaz skin? Why yes, yes I did. Feels like Noodle would get along with the Huntr/x crew. Fun zombie / horde mode for some casual, switch your brain off, fun.

My brother got me a really cool addition to my football jersey collection for my birthday. A retro replica kit from West Ham’s 1975 FA Cup winning team (the year I was born) signed by some of the team from that day. #coyi #westham

Went to see Tron: Ares this afternoon. Fun popcorn movie. 🍿 First time in a long while seeing a film in 3D IMAX. The IMAX speakers certainly do the soundtrack justice. It doesn’t go too overboard on the nostalgia either, just a few fun nods. Enjoyable afternoon diversion.

Spent a few hours this evening with @doublefine.com's new one - Keeper. It's a delightfully weird Journey-like, with a side of surrealist nature documentary. Some minor camera niggles aside, I had fun so far with it's light environmental puzzling.

This brief trip to San Francisco was a bit random and accidental in the scale of things, but it has been nice to have a few days pure R&R and unplug. Not often I get a handful of consecutive days to just do tourist stuff in a city I visit.

Took some time this morning to go back to one of my favorite small museums in San Francisco. The Cartoon Art Museum ( @cartoonart.bsky.social) is a small gallery with a focus on cartoon art and animation. Always has something interesting on display.

It wouldn’t be a trip to San Francisco for me without a visit to Humphy Slocombe in the Ferry building for some of their Secret Breakfast ice-cream. Cornflakes, caramel, and bourbon. It’s probably my favorite ice cream. 🍦🥃

Spent the morning exploring San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art. I walk past so often when busy at GDC every March, so it was lovely to get a few hours to just explore and appreciate the art 🖼️
