"A Wise Old Owl" from Pocketful of Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes. A wise old owl lived in an oak; The more he saw, the less he spoke; The less he spoke, the more he heard. Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Here's an early piece from 1982. I'm guessing its size is 20" W x 24" H. This style is so simple compared to the kind work I do now. I find its open expansive quality refreshing, but my impulse is different now. If I made a beach scene today, it would probably be crammed full of figures!

Cover flat galvanized metal washers with felt and sew their feet in place through the hole in the center of the washer. The older I get, the more I marvel at the changing seasons. Springtime is especially magical because you can notice the transformation from one day to the next. The cherry blossoms are in their glory for a fleeting moment and then everything seems to grow at an accelerated pace.

While looking through the archives, I came across this cluster of grapes pin from decades ago. Love those frosted beads!

Here's a goldfinch showing off his plumage before joining the other birds in "Birds of Beebe Woods", which is is currently on display at Eight Cousins Books (199 Main St. location) in my hometown of Falmouth, MA, on Cape Cod. The original framed piece will be there through the end of August.
