i’m cautious to believe that there’s such thing as a “cautionary tale” when it comes to myth-telling. what makes myth so powerful to me is that it doesn’t tell me how to live, it tells me how i will live. that i’ll experience tragedy and joy and selfishness and love and. i will fall and rise.

thinking of the dyad in real terms - that push and pull and tension between two things. polar, but not only opposite. rey has a childlike enthusiasm for things, and i’d like to imagine ben solo would as well. which would be difficult to live with in a jedi order.

my big gripe about about media criticism comes from the unwillingness to accept anything less than satisfying. if story helps me understand myself and the world more, how does wishing for the absence of anything unsatisfying contribute to that? we learn just as much when unsatisfied, maybe more.

a foundational principle of my practice is that i can’t prevent any of this from happening. all i can do is be there for people who want something different going forward. i often feel as though i don’t have a place because of this.
