It's not uncommon to see Eagles in the area, but this is the first time I've seen them in their nest. There we're two adults, one flew and one is still in there.

A lovely fall morning for coffee on the deck. Yes I know it will be close to 90 this afternoon, but its 54 degrees right now. And the sound of walnuts hitting the tin roof of the chicken coop.

Made a quick beef and broccoli stir fry on yhe Blackstone tonight.🍽

Just got off a flight from Phoenix and we were hungry, but didn't want to go anywhere, so I picked some fresh tomatoes and made sauce.🍽🍅

Not in the front yard l, but not far from it. I think it's our resident fawn growing up.

Spaghetti squash. This is a new thing for me. I hope we like it🍽

Finally cool enough that we can cook over the fire. Brats and homemade potato chips. There is watermelon for desert. Everything came from Farmer's Market this morning. (Although the relish is mine that I canned last week)🍽🌱🔥

Now to try and make it all fit into jars. This is just from today. 🌱

Today's garden haul (so far) there's more out there. Those pinkish tomatoes on the top are an heirloom variety called German Johnson. They have produced some of the biggest slicing tomatoes I've ever seen.🍅🫑🌶🫘🌱

It's pizza night. Would have loved to do them over a wood fire, but it's still 90 degrees outside.

Today's garden haul (right after I said I refuse to pick any more cucumbers). I've made a lot of so pickles and relish this year.

Couldn't quite make up my mind, so this is a ricotta, chicken, tomato tart. Fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella. It looks good. Should taste ok.🍽

It's finally mild enough and low humidity that we can cook over an open fire. On the menu tonight jalapeno poppers, rib eye steak, and fresh cucumbers. Local beef, jalapeños and cucumbers from our garden and a lovely vanilla porter that we brewed at home.

What a whirlwind of a week last. My son got married Saturday. I made their wedding cake and did all of the food for the reception. What a fun time. Definitely some shenanigans. Today I'm just absorbing the quiet peaceful rain and cool breezes on the deck. (Before the heat warning sets in)

Picked a couple cucumbers today. There was a purple pepper, but I think my granddaughter has taken that for a snack already. 🌱

Good morning from the deck. It's a lovely 64 degrees. The heat and humidity are holding off for one more day.

Rib eye steak, cucumbers, honey butter skillet corn. Everything is either from my garden or the local farmers' market.🍽

Still need to clean up some damage from yesterday. Probably going to have to use the bucket lift for those.🌱

Good morning. Listening to the Catbirds signing in the rain. We are out of drought (at least for now) and having a fantastic growing season. The last few years have been rough, I'll take this blessing.☔️

Almost perfect growing conditions. Rain, sunshine, warmth but not so much that we had to put up the sunshade. Those tomatoes are about to take over the world. 🌱🍅🌶🥒

This Dawn Redwood has grown a foot since spring.

Today's "field trip" with my granddaughter was Wapsipinicon State Park. The upside down bridge, ice cave, and horse thief cave.

I haven't cooked in a while, its been too hot. We went all out tonight. A caprese salad (farmer's market tomatoes, my basil), Balsamic glazed pork chops and a 🍒 pie. 🍽

Coffee on the deck. 3 more days of perfect summer weather then the heat and humidity are back for the weekend.

Literally nothing has been cooking for the last 4 days. It's been a heatwave. Food trucks and local dives. 🌱

My granddaughter and I are taking "field trips" every Monday while school is out. Last week was the Devonian Fossil Gorge in Coralville. Today was a visit to Usher's Ferry Historical Village. Next week Effigy Mounds (if it's under 90 degrees)

Another morning rain storm from the deck. We need those aquifers replenished. 90+ for next 3 days is going to make the garden explode. But I weeded yesterday l, so that's ok.🌱

I have my 8 year old granddaughter on during the summer. Mondays are "field trip" days. This past Monday was a trip to the Devonian Fossil Gorge in Coralville. Unearthed as a result of 2 massive floods in 1993 and 2008.

We needed this rain. Then follow it up with 3 days of sun and 90 degrees. We'll be able to watch the garden grow. 🌧🌱

Breakfast outside at #WestEndDiner with my 8 year old granddaughter. We took my middle daughter to the airport and stayed and watched the plane take off. Now I'm listening to her happily chatter away and feeling so blessed with my life I could cry.

This is my Dawn Redwood. I waited all summer for it last year. It's grown almost a foot already this year. I think the "leaves" look prehistoric.

Lovely roses, but when I bought it, it was yellow. That was three years ago. I'm not sure how they turned into these beautiful red ones.
