In #TheVoid, both you and the opponent can set up shields to protect oneself from attacks. Each success in the reels grants 1 shield layer; a shield layer blocks 1 direct attack, then breaks. Upkeeping shields is a vital part of the strategic gameplay, but more on that later. #The1MonthGame

Game design principles #2: Focus on the core mechanics at first. If the core isn't fun, adding more features on top won't fix it. Example: All Minecraft was at first, was building with blocks. It worked, it was fun on its own. Everything else was just icing on the cake. #indiegames #gamedev

Anybody else sad about the fact, that mobile game industry is pretty toxic with all the whale hunting microtransactions? It doesn't have to be like that... Mobiles games can be good and a great venue for talented indie devs to express their creativity. I view smartphones like handheld consoles.

Game design principles #1: If you introduce a feature, have a reason for its existence. Example: In TES 5: Skyrim, Argonians have the ability to breathe underwater. Still, no dungeons in the game have additional underwater sections taking advantage of this. #indiegame #games #gamedesign
