I have a new appreciation for Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky since moving to Portland. Spiders are all over the place here, and I'm sure they are plotting against me. This book, however, is great ($3).

If the thought of Amazon makes you want to eat the rich, why not read "Ritz and Escoffier" by Luke Barr. It details how fancypants dining started (and details some truly over the top things rich people did back in the day… they've always been the worst!). $2.

Exodus by Peter F. Hamilton is a some sort of game tie-in, but that doesn't matter. If you like gigantic space operas and haven't read Hamilton… you should! A fun read, even if not his best. But 908 pages for $2 is hard to beat.
