I might do a smaller scale Clockwork Tower story before Shadowlark. I was talking to Bug about how Shadowlark and the tabletop game are the big things I always wanted to do but feel like I lost my opportunity for them. And I think I need smaller projects I can finish to get my legs back.

I'm a little silent this week; including this weekend, because I'm kind of distracted. I have some basic ideas for the last classes but I also am thinking about some stuff with how I want to handle the sprites and weapon lists.

Situation stole one of my days for project so I'm taking one of the weekdays to make up for today.

In the theme of my game project being simple I went with the plan of "we have final fantasy 1 at home". But I also am making an effort to kind of personalize it into something my own. One of the elements of this (heh, pun) is changing the four fiends into archfae of the four courts from CWT lore.

The Black Mage and White Mage counterpart classes. Honestly the healer class being very clearly "your mom came along to make sure everyone is eating properly and has dinosaur bandaids" is my favorite right now.

Wortlings! Fucked up little guys that are the result of an alchemical disaster who are the common minion and horde monster of the setting. Don't really have minds of their own and just imprint on strong monsters and villains.

I'm renaming my red mage class to "maverick" because its a fun reference to the word origin and the new idea for the class aesthetic; and also because if I called them "Starwind" or "Outlaw" like five people would get what I am going for.

I was going to wait and post a whole set when I have more of them; but I really like how these came out. Class designs for my dinky game project.

I have a cobbled together character select my tutor helped me put together; it's not pretty but its functional. Going to see if I can set up most of the database today and then next weekend I can start working on the map and scenerio.

Ok. So my goal at the moment is to set up a Final Fantasy 1 style character / party select option at the start of the game. I have yet to find any really good tutorials or resources for that so at the moment its a lot of combing through tangential posts.

This weekend for personal project I think I'm going to try and dig up my RPG maker assets.

Things I want to be better about conveying in characterization this time, Eve edition: Eve isn't actually an asshole. She just cares more about you than you do and that pisses her off.

one issue I'm still running into is that Graves isn't really pulling off the main character energy he needs to have. Errol and Graves were supposed to be these mythical overpowered Mary-sue protagonists; which is a weight their deaths hold. And Graves doesn't feel like that here.

Errol and Graves (living version) redesign progress. I'm not especially happy with them yet but I need them to just be serviceable so I can get started. These outfits are only for the prologue chapter anyways.

redesigning characters is hard.

Apparently I need to start over from scratch for Graves' design. Both his living design and his revenant.

So, talking to Squid helped me find my guiding star for Graves' design when he was alive and its: "The Beast trying to be Prince Charming so people will not be afraid of him."

my attitude on character design feedback is that; even if I dont like the idea or dont think it will work, I often try it anyways. Even if I dont use it, there is merit to see what elements of a design are functioning and what can be removed or changed.

For anyone who stumbles onto this and is confused: kakkarin = monkeycats, gaderah = "human" but thematically dwarves, Lumarian = elves, Kroma/chroma = various beast people (chromosome not chromatic), Qui = bunnyrabbit halflings, and Dolls are the android looking race (that I haven named exactly)

I think if I did a full redesign of Bleu I kind of want to give him tattoos but I worry that it ruins the whole prettyboy thing and also runs the risk of creating visual contrast with the storytelling of him never having scars because of perfecting the iron body technique.

These designs for this picture are kind of a mix of the original designs and some new ideas: Roman and Raspmute are way leaning into more current design ideas, for example, because originally their races were different: making them a kakkarin and a doll is a more recent rewrite.
