I am moving to adjourn today's meeting in memory of Ismael Ayala-Uribe, who died in ICE custody last week in Adelanto, as well as the 15 other immigrants nationwide who lost their lives this year during ICE raids and while being detained by ICE. May they rest in peace.

Update: 10 workers were taken by ICE—out of a total staff of 14. Madrona Car Wash can't operate with so few people and has shut down. Meanwhile, families have lost their breadwinners. We are working to connect them w/ resources they need—legal aid, rent relief, food assistance.

Hearing reports that ICE just conducted a raid at Madrona Car Wash in Torrance and detained at least 8 people.   Yet again, it is clear ICE is not targeting violent criminals— these are hardworking members of our community who are trying to provide for their families.

📢 San Pedro commuters: Starting Monday, there will be a one-lane closure on SB Western Ave on weekdays from 9am-3pm for at least 4 weeks. This will allow for drilling to see conditions in the Clearwater Tunnel. There are no safety concerns—but commuters should plan accordingly.

It’s a good day in West Whittier, where are celebrating the grand opening of 97 affordable apartments for people who have experienced homelessness. But it’s just not just apartments— Laurel Grove also includes beautiful outdoor spaces for gardening, a dog park and more.

I just voted to create an Emergency Rent Relief Program for wildfire survivors and immigrants. These two crises mean thousands of families are on the brink of homelessness. People are suffering, and LA County is stepping up to be a safety net for these communities.

Half of LA County identifies as Hispanic or Latino—it goes without saying that we would not be the same without these communities and their contributions. As we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to be clear to our Latino communities: You are LA County—and you belong here.

ICE agents are continuing to terrorize our communities. These workers—who are simply trying to make a living—say being raided and kidnapped by masked ICE agents is "the new norm."   "We just have to learn to live with it."   This is not how a democracy operates.

I met with the Consul General of Mexico Carlos González Gutiérrez yesterday. He has been to this facility and saw with his own eyes how overcrowded and inhumane the conditions are. ICE is hiding the truth from these lawmakers.

These 75 tons of illegal fireworks in a warehouse in Commerce were a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks to the EPA, @calfire.bsky.social & @lacofd.bsky.social for working together to remove it all. This was a challenging situation, and it took coordination across all levels of government to solve.

That day, Commander Zeferino John Madrigal III presented me with Purple Heart parking signs. Well today—Purple Heart Day—we installed two of these at Liberty Plaza in South Whittier. Now Purple Heart vets who visit here will have dedicated, preferential parking. A small sign of our thanks.🇺🇸

Maintenance work on the Green Line means a free bus bridge will replace trains between Norwalk & Lynwood through August 26.   Many just found out recently. Our riders deserve more notice for weekslong disruptions like this. My staff will work with Metro to make sure that happens in the future.

Three years ago this month, we celebrated the official transfer of Bruce’s Beach back to its rightful owners, the Bruce family. When I first met with our County lawyers & said I wanted to return this property to the Bruces, they told me nothing like it had ever been done before.

LAPD officers don’t wear masks to make an arrest. Our @lasdhq.bsky.social deputies don’t hide their badges to make an arrest. We need to hold ICE agents to the same standard.

The partial collapse of the Clearwater Tunnel earlier this month raised serious questions about this project & how the Sanitation Districts will make sure nothing like that happens again. We will be hosting a town hall on Aug. 9th to address your questions and concerns about this project.
