Glimpses of Amsterdam while we were out and about today.

Two weeks ago I planted a few small begonia plants to grow by my desk at the window and it is already flowering!

Raymond and I had lunch at restaurant Bunk in Amsterdam Noord today. They have a fantastic vegan sandwich on the menu, with babaganoush, grilled courgette and peppers, roasted chickpeas, and rucola.

We picked up Raymond's vintage typewriter today! He was using it over 40 years ago and I had it serviced with the wonderful people at the Typemachine Fabriek in Gouda, so it's ready to go again!

On a small embankment of the Hollands IJssel river on the GOUDasfalt terrain in Gouda stands this 'Wind Telephone' an original idea by Itaru Sasaki (Japan) as a way to deal with loss. People can make calls to their dear ones who have passed away and the wind carries their messages.

Passing Schiphol Airport today on our way down to Gouda. Planes drive over the highway on their way to the main building after landing on the further away runway.

One of my favourite garden visitors came to say good morning and look for breakfast at the bird feeder today.

There are beautiful tiled entrances to old apartment buildings all over Amsterdam. These are at the Bellamyplein in Amsterdam's west.

We stopped in at the Flourshop in Amsterdam West, to get some conchas and a taste of authentic, homemade Mexican flavors this afternoon! Just opened and founded by Yola (from Palenque, in the south of Mexico) and Jaime (from Monterrey, up north), this gorgeous corner shop is worth a visit!

Mr. Mouse earlier this morning. He came over from the back of the garden to look for grains that fall from the bird feeding station. He and the family Mouse live somewhere in the back of the garden by the compost.

My department moved up a floor at work and now I have a window that is perfect for plants. It will be interesting to see how much this grows in a few months.

Foggy start to the day as we drove through the Schermer region this morning to visit our local farmers for fresh produce.

Our newly purchased Edo Rath paper-cut work of art is finally hanging on the kitchen wall! It's in good company with other well-known local (street) artists and makes a happy addition to our small but growing art collection. I call it the fiery meatball crater planet!

We picked up the Edo Rath artwork today! It was bought at Edo's exhibition before Christmas and Raymond is going to hang it in our kitchen tomorrow.

I passed another fantastic piece of street art by Frankey while walking to the metro stop yesterday evening after work.

Today's bread experiment turned into a 5th Element loaf.

After buying farm produce this morning we were invited for a stroll through the orchard because Raymond asked if they might have wood for him to create more spoons. These are pear trees, but they also grow apples, plums, and cherries. Our young farmer found Raymond a nice pear branch.

Winter days are by far not over, but there are already signs of spring in our garden! Bulbs have popped up all over the place, our cavolo nero is ready to be harvested, and the tiny sprig of wild strawberry we brought back from a forest in France the other year has spread beautifully. #GardeningFeed

Puzzle update!

Raymond has been up-cycling thrown away Christmas trees and made me this whisk! It is made from the very top of a tree. The needles are removed and branches bent up to soak in boiling water. This creates the whisk shape which is then mounted into a handle.

Three done, only 997 to go!

There's not much going on in the garden during this weather, but we have managed to refill the jars on our bird feeding station with a fresh mix of peanut butter, seeds, grain, and mealworms. #GardeningFeed.

It took us a bit longer than expected to drive back to the Netherlands today. It was a mixed bag of Arctic in the north-west of France today. Snow and ice on the village roads, thick fog, surreal sunrise across fields, and once we got up closer to Belgium the sun broke through.
