I forgot to take a picture before I left for work, but I have Excavation Earth sprawled out on my desk to refresh my memory of the rules against the solo opponent in preparation for hosting the game at #ConoftheNorth next week. I knew this game slaps, but I’d forgotten how hard.

Felt like -15 F at the MN State Fair’s Ice Castles last night with the family, so I figured it’d be a good place to do a little proselytizing for the lizard cult (since @leder.games is just down the road, after all). The little Frost monsters loved the rainbow slides and ice dragon eggs!

Throwback to ten minutes ago when life was chrome and my Big Rig was unblemished. Two earthquakes later (which served to kill THREE of my wife’s pesky bikes) and I was forced to drive through two hazards (with no more lane changes) and took the final damage from her spiteful air strike. My daughter just got a glow in the dark pillowcase and black light pen from her uncles and she was ecstatic. She drew all through storytime and I told her she could use it a _little_ afterward. 20” later, she’s found and recharged everything that glows and been practicing stencils like Banksy 🤣

I enjoyed easily my most board gamey Christmas season yet (my kids _made_ me a custom game for a present, we had excellent extended family game times, I made huge headway on several hobbyhorse projects…) but I missed just 2p unwind with my partner. Now we return to Explorers of Navoria #boardgames ❤️

Last night at the parents’ and wow did we have a blast and play some GREAT games. I got Snakes of Wrath from my brother and it rules, I played a great round of La Mariole (indoor bocce), and we ended with an awesome teach n play of QE. Not to mention all the amazing family activities. Very full ❤️

TFW you go into the assumed last round of Sea Salt & Paper as points leader and the two players you just taught the game to both get 20+ point rounds (and yours went absolutely pear shaped). Man, this game is fantastic. Board game holiday FTW even when I take the big L. #boardgames #pandasaurusgames

Had a blast teaching my parents how to play Quacks tonight (and Kate and I both getting smoked by both of them for our troubles). And getting to use the ingredient dumpsters! What a fun, silly game, but also man, set 1 is pretty solid but the bag pull birds slow it down, might try a hybrid next time

The weekend may’ve been largely populated by shorter games (all L’s for me, mostly W’s for daughter), but from Root playtesting at LG-HQ on Thursday to a resurgence of a long-time hobbyhorse in the before-work hour, it was a fantastic chunk of games. Now to actually PLAY my new Maximum Chrome TR…

It’s hard to overstate how thoroughly Kate thwarted my evil plans in the final turn of LOTR: Duel. I was pushing for a nearly unanimous military strategy while the Fellowship amassed supporters, towers, money, AND rings (hard to imagine how I lost!), but it was a final gold card extra turn win. 😭

Welcome to ADHD hell. We’ve gone through some recent downsizing and layoffs, so we just have one department for all nine layers… but it’s calling and emailing multiple entities to try and get insurance coverage figured out for a serious condition that’s not causing you immediate pain. Me: ☠️

The Frost Fleet now has a little bit of Radiator Springs right here in IRL. The Cars franchise has an outsized impact on us, and I don’t care what anyone says, Cars 1 is friggin great and Cars 3 is filled with genuinely important life lessons (and we correctly treat Cars 2 like it never happened).

Tonight’s after hours solo game time: reset and played through the first two chapters of Spire’s End Hildgard after more than two years since my first and only partial play. I’ve slowly added five of the bitsy expansions knowing I’d make it back one day and damn I’m glad I did. 🎃❤️#soloboardgames

I swear I didn’t set out to make my son a Dark Angels Ballistus Dreadnought for this year’s Halloween, he requested to be “a green robot.” So one perfect-but-rather large Amazon box, spray paint, duct tape, light switches, and some padding later, he was the cutest accidental 40k character ever. 💚

Just played my first two solo games of Dranda Games’ fantastic game Explorers of Navoria. I’m in love with the lighthearted image stretched taught across a crunchy combo-fest. Played the first solo episode twice with different sidequest and difficulties and adored both! @drandagames.bsky.social

Just read about tweets being fed to Grok and wasn’t interested. I was fully on board to perma-lurk, but with the abysmal engagement and absolute swarm of bots and bros, completely removing the ability to fall back on the old habit seemed like the right move. Go and joy go with you, Elno.

Just finished my first-ever game of LOTR: Duel (two-handed to test my rulebook knowledge). My wife and I have played a BUNCH of games of 7W:D, but I’m not gonna lie… I friggin love this new take on the classic. The art, the three victory conditions, it was SO tense all the way through. 🤘🤓❤️

Time for me to get serious about finding greener pastures and bluer skies. Go #boardgames !

Had a blast playing #ProjectJumpstart this morning! The themes have gone through a bit of tweaking and they’re really feeling good. Also, my 40-card prismatic goofball “Enemy at the Gates” is a super fun matchup! (Izzet-Azorius barely beat them) Also fancy new theme cards now!

Wizards, chill the fuck out challenge (impossible). Listen, I _love_ being back “into” Magic with #ProjectJumpstart but if I were still even partly plugged into regular releases and seeking out new cards, four disparate expansions Sep-Apr (w/ well over 1,000 cards) is stupid.

#ProjectJumpstart has been such a huge success that LOTR’s theme-building efforts bore fruit that I _immediately_ harvested for my Ravnica box. All 10 guilds feel great, the 3-color decks of two guilds feel wild and wondrous, and I’m in love with the custom stuff! Games tomorrow!

OMG. I need to tell you about this mission in ISS Vanguard! So I went back to [REDACTED] because I needed to [REDACTED] the [REDACTED], which I totally did. And in the process, I [REDACTED] both my characters and I unlocked [REDACTED] for next mission! Man I love this game so much.

Here are my “drafting cards” I made for the 15 themes in my LOTR box of Project Jumpstart (yes, there were only ten actual themes but I made a custom third theme for each color using unused cards, mechanics and/or themes from the set (and rebalanced the original 10)).
