This time last year we visited the Christmas market and fayre in Edinburgh. There were many stands selling crepes too - you can't improve on banana and nutella.

The low winter sunshine does provide some nice light.

Happy Hallowe'en! We have six groups sheltering with us from the ghouls tonight, but after this it all gets quieter. Coming up in Falkirk is the big fireworks display on 5th November, always a good time, or just drive up the hills and watch all the small displays below you.

We started on a shoestring budget, and now a year in we're able to add the extras we've always wanted. Today we're getting new pet blankets, and, more importantly, heated towel rails! That's a bit of a project but all the units will get them over the next few weeks as and when we can.

Been doing some stats, this August has been our busiest period ever, more than 80% occupancy, and with the 14 days from 4th-17th August at 97%! Thankyou to all our guests, I don't think we ever expected to be this busy!

It was one year ago today that our first ever guests arrived at Heart of Scotland Holidays. Since then it's been quite a ride, and we've met lots of lovely people and hopefully given them memories that will last a lifetime - mostly for the good we think!

We ask our guests to leave feedback about the highlights of their stay, and we got an unusual one: the local Aldi is open to 2200 on Sundays! It's always easy to forget how restrictive England's Sunday trading laws are when you've lived in Scotland for a while.

July was our busiest month yet, but August is busier still. Moreover, August stays are on average 25% shorter than July, which means more changeovers. Our fantastic team of cleaners will be very busy this month!

We've had a nice quiet few days here - no changeovers, just guests staying for the week. It'll pick up at the weekend though, as three units change over. It's lovely and sunny too, without being too hot.

Heart of Scotland is a not for profit, and all excess goes towards maintaining the Grade B listed Kinneil House, or mental health work. This week we're working on what will be a bedroom in the house, with a funky new turquoise paint scheme, with glitter!

This is the V&A museum in Dundee. It's quite a place, and most importantly has a good café with a view over the Tay. It's only a few minutes' walk from the station too.

Just had our first guests in from the continent of Africa. While most of our guests are from the UK, we've now had guests from mainland Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania. Just South America and Antarctica to go in terms of continents.

We had a guest enquiry today about whether we have travel cots available. Yes, we do have travel cots available, bed guards, also high chairs, an art easel, and board games suitable for children. We like to think we've covered everything, but if you can think of something else do let us know.

When you're coming and going from your car at Heart of Scotland, remember to look up at the windows - you might see a cat! As we do renovations hopefully the number of windows where cats can be seen will increase. The cat in the photo is called Purple, though he prefers it pronounced Purrrple.

Another busy day at HOSH! We have two sets of departing guests, and three sets incoming to start one- or two-week stays. There's a same-day changeover in the Logstack. As we get into summer the stays get longer, so less changeovers, but higher occupancy %.

You can still see the Waverley (centre) on the Clyde, the world's last ocean-going paddle steamer. She makes regular trips around the country too, I used to see her down in Bristol, but she spends most of each summer in Scotland.

When doing any task, it's important to keep yourself amused. Flashback to cleaning the deck in October!
