Snow totals from two different sources. They are delightfully all over the place. Officially 5.8” at MSP My finally forecast assessment: It snowed, it was windy, and the roads were crappy.

6.5” report in Otsego, 6.0” in Apple Valley… Looks like the metro will barely scrape into the forecast range.

Seeing more 4” totals popping up around the Twin Cities. Should see another 2-3” between now and 2 AM. It’s going to be on the lower end of the forecast range, in that 6-7” window for most.

Travel is not advised in southwest/south-central Minnesota. Whiteout conditions and a bunch of crashes.

I still think you’ll shovel at least twice: Once after dinner/before bed, then again before work Monday morning. Snow won’t stop falling until 2am (ish) and the strong winds will blow more snow on to cleared spaces.

1:25pm Getting a little break in the east Metro right now. But let me tell you, the winds are blowing the snow around. The steady your snow will wrap back in from the west over the next couple of hours. Expect light to steady snow through the late afternoon and evening, plus strong winds.

And this is BEFORE the winds really start cranking this afternoon and evening. You will have a slow drive going a mile or two to the store. Going from city to city or county to county could be legit dangerous Sunday. Please be safe, be smart.

Yep, trend held overnight. Totals are going up. 7-10” is likely in the Twin Cities, with the heaviest snow falling midday through sunset. The message is still the same: If you don’t need to, don’t drive this afternoon and tonight.

Whew, models are trending higher with snow totals this evening. I’ll wait to see if it holds through Sunday morning. If you don’t need to drive Sunday afternoon or evening: don’t.

Tomorrow is a “can I have 8 minutes for weather?” type of day.

Sunday will get nasty around Minnesota and western Wisconsin. IF YOU NEED TO DO LONG DISTANCE DRIVING, DO IT BEFORE 9AM! In the Twin Cities, it will be slower getting around town from late morning through the evening. Plan on winter driving conditions most of the day. Snow total map comes later.

Ok, I’m back on the clock after Christmas. If you were planning on traveling to/from the Twin Cities Sunday, do it as early as possible. Roads will likely be rough from midday through the early evening. This is a shovelable snow and strong winds.
