The two different transformations I think can be an impactful metaphor for gender and femininity.

To me after watching the film when he finally embraces Alexia as herself instead of Adrian it reminds me of a gender fluid journey. Could this me a metaphor for being seen as who you arE???

The dance during the party on top of the truck seems to signify some sort of pivotal change in the plot. ls Alex transforming into something new?

I don't understand the draw to have a father in adrian's dad. The connection they have later through dancing confuses me...

The killings are connected to pleasure. It is interesting how this always connects back to sexual pleasure as well.

The strong desire/attraction to metal/cars/titanium after the accident and having the surgery reminds me of "instinct" of some nature. I also don't understand the desire for pain...

This is such a strong story of generational guilt and shame. Donna's house could pose as a metaphor to that overwhelming shame.

I have been in circles being viewed as a "Killjoy." I found this SUPER relatable. There needs to be a dramatic shift in society that confronting racism, sexism, or other is ruining people's comfortability.

I think the fact that Cassie accepted the proposal was a chance to start over and escape the past. Although, I think that it was ultimately just an easy way out.

I predict Cassie is going to become too emotionally tied to embodying and becoming Lexi that it leads to her downfall.

I loved the connection we talked about in class to Carrie Bradshaw as a post-feminism example. We are being distracted by what we SHOULD be doing!!!

It feels at this point Asughara and Ada seem to be becoming one and the dynamic continues to be one that is complex. I wonder if a Western perspective may see the relationship between the two as a split personality.

The use of italics seems to be an interesting and intentional choice by the author. I think this creates more of an unsettling tone, "Come back, they said. Listen to us this time" (Emezi 134).

It is devastating to hear the tradegy that is happening to the Ada repetitively, yet she believes that these actions are justified and that Asughara is shielding Ada. It seems that the more Ada tries to hold onto what could possibly ground her the ogbanje try to consume her.

Names and the circulation of identity becomes a reoccurring pattern within the first four chapters. Names hold great power. (more on this in my presentation...)

The ending seemed a bit rushed. I also wonder if anyone questioned Anna's death... it all seemed to easy of an escape.

"Mothers, like gardeners or historians, identify virtues appropriate to their work work. But to identify a virtue is not to possess it" (Ruddick 36). Mothers wear many hats, being a mother is simply one.

"Oh 'tis you who knows better than the girl's own physician, is it? You, who couldn't even tell a dead child from a living one?" (Donoghue 212). Journalism is not only affecting Anna but her family and the perception of the situation from an outside perspective.

"To become literary a house, after all, is to be denied the hope of that spiritual transcendence of the body.." (Gilbert and Gubar 119). The idea of women being compared/transformed to domesticity enables patriarchal writings.

It is interesting to think about the setting (the nursery) being symbolism of the narrator's lack of agency as a woman/John's perception of her as a woman. -Parallels of how the narrator is perceived/treated by John as being less than/helpless/hysterical and how one could view a child
