It’s incredible how noisy the job market to hire frontend engineers is right now. Maybe it’s LinkedIn. Posted a job ad and 160 applicants applied in less than 2 hours to a hybrid job in Raleigh, NC. Less than 10% were in NC. 80% answered the applicant questions with the same ChatGPT response.

Explaining to my 8 year old son, what Nazism is, what WW2 was, what Sieg Heil salute is because he knows who Elon Musk is and wonders what his parents are talking about was nuts. I think I unintentionally ended it with "your generation might really look back on us not so fondly."

Pro Tip: Don't use ChatGPT to apply to a job you really want. It's obvious you used it and not in a good way.

One of the major issues I see crop up in documents is the inability to have any source of record. Like who was the OG author, who edited what, when did x happen, oops we converted it and all this is gone. I’m not sure how AI solves this problem and if anything makes it worse.

I’m always surprised when a business makes a short term customer profitability decision that guarantees a lower to negative long term customer profitability outcome. It literally baffles me every time it happens.

We’ve always had a core value at @nutrientdocs.bsky.social that “it’s always about people.” I’ve said more times than I can remember that every business is a people business. Not sure the current commentary around AI thinks this will still be true. I couldn’t disagree more.

I find the current AI debate super interesting at this point and honestly don't know where I am on it. There are those think it's reach peak hype, those that think it's going to reshape our world, and those who are appalled by the climate impact and coming human impact it could likely have.

Ego is the silent killer. Ego is the subtle poison that creeps into decision-making, Derailing collaboration and fueling office politics. I must not let ego thrive. I will face my ego. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

I couldn't echo the sentiment around both investors and founders being truthful, open, and transparent with one another more. One of the main reasons I went with Insight Partners was their MD was the most direct and honest with me. I knew starting the relationship on that foundation was key.

These cycles have occurred in the past but I don’t think they have happened this quickly. There’s many tech jobs that are being made redundant every day and won’t ever come back.

Back to London and Vienna this week. Will definitely be getting a kebab, frittaten suppe, and a schnitzel.

It's really been a welcome break from everything: work, election stuff, social media, etc being on vacation the second half of this week. I think perspective is super hard to gain in the thick of it. I definitely needed this.

I'm a big fan of what Apple doing with Spatial Photos. The technology can still be iterated on to improve some of the zoom cropping and warping that occurs when converting to spatial. The effect is still so cool. It really makes you feel like you are there even in older photographs.

Messed around last night with Vision Pro's Ultrawide mode on Mac Virtual Display and it's everything I hoped it was. Virtual display is the main reason I put on my Vision Pro these days. Great job Vision Pro team!

It's really crazy how much more engagement you can get on some posts on Threads versus X, or Mastadon, or BlueSky. I mean, it's also just as random and hit or miss the posts that take off versus the ones that I get crickets on Threads.
