Multiple days of error testing where it works fine in dev and not in prod solved by using a wired network connection. So darn irritating.

I didn't wake up early enough to do a training run, but it is supposed to be 50 degrees at lunchtime, so maybe I will do a longer walk and not worry too much about it. They are all good miles, Brent.

Kid and I (and my friends) did our Frosty Feet miles this morning. 3.5 miles of walking didn't feel so bad even with temps in the 20s given there was no wind.

The last knitting project I finished in 2025 was this sock pattern, which turned out to be a smidge too big for me. Thankfully I have friends with all sizes of feet!

Yesterday was my first 5K in forever where I ran more than half of it. I was super sore and should have taken ibuprofen when I finished (I also got a bonus optical migraine during the run), but I took it in the evening and feel mostly better now.

Last work day of the year. I was hoping for something chill, but instead it is busy. Not bad, but I was hoping to not need to rush.

I couldn't convince myself to take a walk over lunch. Instead I listened to the end of a podcast and played word games.

I can feel my power and toughness growing! This is the first time I have had Arabic coffee with cardamom and the package instructions make a very strong coffee.

One of the members of a committee I'm on in last night's meeting said he used ChatGPT everyday. It was completely for things that a simple search engine could do. I was biting my tongue so hard.

I finally caught the sick that has been going around the family. Even more than normal I just want to sit around and bury myself in a blanket.

Frosty Feet started yesterday. Last year I thought I was recovered from injury, so I tried for too much mileage and didn't make it. This year I am doing 100 miles and I'm on track.

I wanted to enjoy a snow day too, but I am nearly out of my combined PTO pool for the year. I want to knit and read and be in a cozy blanket dozing. Instead I'm testing a program for one of our departments, and building a bit more functionality into it.

Tonight's dinner was teriyaki glazed tofu over sushi rice with edamame. Our bellies were happy.

I have never had the sunk cost fallacy made so clear as with my printing project today. On Friday, it took 2 of us most of 2 days to print all of the components. Today I moved the network cables etc to the other printer and I was done solo before lunch.

BUILD (Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct action) is a group our UU congregation is heavily involved in. So here I am pushing program updates and saying Rise up and Build as I compile to prod.

This week has been a hot mess at work. Vendor API issues, ancient printers (like dot matrix) with feeding issues, and data files changing after programming. Friday is tomorrow and I will be very grateful at the end of the day.

I was discussing UBI with my kid yesterday, and while he was more focused on homelessness I was focusing on how applying it to all regardless of income levels lowers the administrative burden. I don't want people to have gobs of paperwork to access aid/UBI.

I think this year was the first time we had a second vegetarian at thanksgiving. We had mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, pierogi, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce. Friends brought corn pudding, Mac and cheese, and stuffing (and meat things). There was a lot and I'm still full the next morning.

Gingerbread is made. Crème patisserie is made. Second cake is made. Decorating and vegetables after the dog show!

The caramels are cut and wrapped. Rolls are baked (which I could have done for tomorrow, but they will keep). Potatoes are boiling for pierogi. I think I have 5-6 more things for today, but 2 of them are easy peasy.

I want what Brazil is having for Thanksgiving. Pretty please?

I loved Wicked: For Good (saw it Saturday), but I am disappointed that the characters I wanted to kiss didn't kiss. To be fair, they didn't kiss in the book or original musical either.

Or just normalize having no alcohol. Even the presence of alcohol can be hard for someone recovering from alcoholism, and it isn't needed to have a good time.

Every time I have a race it is a new opportunity for greater success or own goals of failure. This time I walked the race (which is fine even if it wasn't the plan) because the leggings I was wearing kept trying to slide off my butt. Whoops!

Can I put in for 2-3 hours extra work? I left with a project in test (a weird in production test, because I'm a solo dev) and dreamed about solving the issues all weekend long.

I'm kind of sad. I finished @maigadoocy.bsky.social 's Sorcery and Small Magics and there is no second one yet. It is fine. I have another 20 books out from the library to soothe myself with. It was just so sweet and wholesome feeling compared to the news. I need that.

I made a strawberry birthday cake with a strawberry jam filling and Swiss meringue buttercream. I have more strawberries and some fondant decorations to go on before serving, because I am trying my hand at the King Arthur berry mirror glaze later today.

So, I feel like this is unfair. Kentucky voted in 1992 to give themselves a break and only have elections 3 out of 4 years. We have elections every even year, but I had to double check that we had something or nothing to vote for. Odd years are weird here.

I wish I had the interchangeable needle set in my bag. One of the needles (right side) is unscrewing every row. I just cannot tighten it enough by hand.

I feel like @kateatherley.bsky.social would be proud of me. I stifled the urge to weave in the ends, washed my knitting and patted and lightly pinned it to shape to dry and then wove in my ends. I think the areas where I put a new skein in for a stripe look better (more filled in).

I made a test cake for practicing mirror glaze. Gingerbread cake with pumpkin whipped cream, Swiss meringue buttercream and white chocolate mirror glaze. The glaze isn't quite right. Obviously I needed the practice.

I make these at least once every year. They are delicious even if you make them too hard to chew! Image is a cutting board lined with parchment with reddish brown caramels being cut. The caramels are dotted with flaky sea salt.

I have only practiced my clarinet ~30 minutes since I picked it up Saturday. While I only can consistently play 5 notes, I'm looking for songs to work towards. I have printed a version of Ghostbusters, but I need something a bit easier. Any suggestions?

My hand hurt on Friday and I bought the cheapest compression thing for it. Today I said I'm tired of wearing, used some ibuprofen and cleaned my kitchen (stove side). Maybe by this time next weekend I will have a pretty kitchen.

I decided I wanted to feel pretty this morning, so I put on my new earrings from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. I have gotten compliments already and they aren't too heavy given I haven't regularly worn jewelry in 12+ years!

I don't really believe in astrology, but so many jobs have been sent back for redos that I wonder what craziness is in the air or the water. It makes getting home a giant mess, because by then I'm almost always out of cope.
