Update: 1,000 people have taken the #EatLikeJane pledge — committing to incorporate more plant-based foods and meals into their diets. "By choosing to eat meat less, you can help set a standard for a food system that cares about people, animals, and the planet," Dr. Jane once said.

Photography can be extremely powerful. The photos our team has captured over the years, for example, serve as vital tools for conservation. They helped turn science into stories the world could see, transform how people understand and protect animals, and bring recognition to Jane's discoveries.

This year, JGI celebrates two decades of our community forest monitoring program – one of the longest tech-driven, citizen science efforts in Africa! This initiative supports local communities as they conserve their own lands – which is central to Tacare, our community-led conservation approach.

What does sustainable farming look like, exactly? Let's ask the experts! Unsustainable farming practices lead to soil depletion and infertile land, so farmers usually expand into forests – cutting down trees where the soil has nutrients. But this can't go on for too long, because the land runs out.

It's a big day for the Jane Goodall Institute! 49 years ago today, the Institute was incorporated in the United States – committed to protecting chimpanzees and continuing the groundbreaking research that Dr. Jane started in Gombe, where she redefined our understanding of the animal kingdom.

Dr. Jane felt that youth were "some of the most compassionate, creative changemakers [...] and now we have the opportunity to prove her right." That was what Elaina Cox, one of our Youth Advisory Council Fellows, said when she got back from the Roots & Shoots global retreat this past September.
