“In 2023, Republicans limited the state auditor’s ability to demand information from state agencies and officials while conducting investigations. Wettach said he would stand up to efforts aimed at weakening the role of the office.”

“Rita Hart, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, praised Wettach’s decision to run. ‘I have gotten to know Taylor Wettach over the last year and have been impressed with his integrity, work ethic, and commitment to public service,’ said Rita Hart.”

“Wettach grew up in Muscatine in a family he said valued public service. He cited his professional background as an attorney analyzing complex records and evidence as preparation for the auditor’s role, which he said must produce findings that can withstand legal scrutiny.”

Wettach said accountability matters as Iowans face high living costs.“When everyday Iowans are tightening their belts, the last thing they should have to worry about is whether the taxes they pay are being wasted or misused,” Wettach said.

This needs to stop. Another U.S. citizen was senselessly shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis today – the latest in an outrageous pattern of deadly force under this administration.
