In September, our team went to Lusikisiki in Lambasi (Eastern Cape) as part of the AMRoots project funded by Trinity Challenge and led by Prof Helen Mcilleron from UCT on AMR and the use and misuse of antibiotics in livestock and humans. Thanks to everyone who took part.

Behind the Scenes: Utata Music Video. As part of our Learner Doccies program, we collaborate with local artists, using their music in our projects and, in return, creating music videos for them. This past weekend, our team was out filming the music video for Utata by Sir Jay.

We had the great pleasure of hosting @CAMO_Net1 fellows from India, Uganda, Bangladesh, the UK, Brazil, and Malawi at our offices in Khayelitsha for a reflective session on community engagement around Antimicrobial Resistance.

We asked Sikholiwe Mlambisa (16) questions about his experience in the Learner Doccies program. One of the questions was: Did this program change how you think about health topics?

On the 21st of October, we hosted and delivered a guest lecture to undergraduate students from the Council on International Educational Exchange course, focused on Contemporary Challenges in Global Health. The students, led by Sarah Lampert, a PhD researcher from the UCT's Department of Pathology.

Consent is one of the values we hold dearly. We asked Imitha what she had learnt since joining the Learner Doccies program. She shared that one of the most important lessons for her has been understanding consent, what it means, and why it matters.

The IkamvaYouth Masi learners went on a tour of the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation Aerobiology and TB Research Unit, led by Ronnett Seldon. The visit provided learners with valuable insight into the research being conducted at DTHF and even the chance to use a microscope!

The IkamvaYouth Masiphumelele learners were introduced to Eh!woza and the Learner Doccies project, stepping into the exciting world of filmmaking. The session kicked off with learners sharing their story ideas and discussing what they hope to express and achieve through their films.

We recently hosted a Mens Mental Health Workshop in collaboration with VUKA Research Clinic, creating a safe space for honest conversations about what it means to be a man today. We closed the day with a collective pledge to make a difference, committing to support one another.

We visited the Iziko Museums to celebrate our learners’ photographs being exhibited alongside the Wellcome Photography Prize in London, and to experience the Motherhood exhibition curated by artists and the retrospective exhibition by Sue Williamson. Thanks to IkamvaYouthSA.

Learner Doccies: Science Part 02 The results are out! 📊 Learners discovered which surfaces have the most bacteria🦠 and had an exciting session on microscopes with Kristy Winkler from the @UCTIDM, and the learners got an opportunity to use a microscope.

Learner Doccies: Science workshop🧪 Our science workshop at the IDM, it was an engaging workshop where learners learnt about the difference between a bacteria🦠 and a virus 🧬. At the end learners formed a hypothesis and test which surface had the most bacteria 🧫🧍🏽‍♀️🧍🏽.

Learner Doccie: Introduction Stage👏 We kicked off the Learner Doccie programme with an engaging introduction workshop with the IkamvaYouthkuyasa and C-sharp learners. We visited the UCT IDM, Professor Digby Warner gave a guided tour of the facility.
