The oven worked today, held on long enough to handle stuffing, muffins, cauliflower, and pie. The electrician will be called Monday. Anyone who has suggestions on which powers to propitiate for a successful and uneventful repair, please let me know.

It is the night before Thanksgiving and my stove has decided to trip its breaker when it gets turned on broil. I have not tested it on bake, and I'm praying it's just the broil setting. But yhere are not enough capital letters in the English language to express my feelings about this.

I have spent the past few days getting stuff out of the house: donating it, recycling it, throwing it away when there were no other options. For the first time since we had to clear the basement of boxes for the plumbers (2+ months ago) I am not faced with a wall of boxes at the top of the stairs.

I had a job interview today, and it was the first time I have ever had an interview cut short. Correct call, though. I asked how the ML algorithm had been trained. They equivocated, and I said, "I want to know if your algorithm got trained on stolen data that will get the company in a lawsuit." 1/2

While I was on vacation - in a quiet space with most of the comforts I wanted, and enough sleep - I still had a day where the torrential rain and the November lack-of-sunlight wrecked my enjoyment of the whole day. And I knew what was going on! I knew my brain was lying to me! #StupidMeatsack

Ah, Monday morning with kids. One gave themself a bloody nose, and the other one wanted my hot glue for a school project that is due this morning. (This is the first I've heard of it.) I didn't like sitcoms even BEFORE I was a parent.

Three days' work. One complete jelly roll. Doubled batting. Six bobbin winds. 50 feet of binding. Innumerable pins. Ten placemats. And my thread neither jammed nor broke this entire project, so thank you to whoever it was that told me that thread gets old and I should chuck my grandmother's stash.

So I lost at bobbin chicken several times today, but holy crap did I win at fabric chicken. I was SURE I was going to have to bind the last two placemats with some of the fabric I'm going to buy to make napkins, but no. I win. This is all that was left of my jelly roll. I'm stunned.

One, one placemat! Dear goodness, I'd forgotten just how much I loathe doing the bindings on quilts. And I have something like 50 feet to do. Ugh. Still, this is actually fun, and I'm finally going to have enough matching placemats that I won't be doing the twitchy thing at Thanksgiving.

It is 61°F and sunny today, and the local bike path is attempting to convince me that it's not November and about to be awful weather. I don't believe it for a minute, I've seen the forecast. But it's gorgeous for now, and I will appreciate it

I'm at 2 because: 1. My boombox was too wide to fit on my shoulder. (It was kind of shaped like an elongated russet potato with a handle.) 2. I preferred to use the library encyclopedia and save my shelf space for the complete works of Shakespeare and the Norton Anthologies of various literatures.

My day has involved the Novocaine wearing off midway through the fillings process, and two large containers of yogurt leaping to their doom on the driveway the minute I got home from the grocery store. But I'm going to go make music with kind friends. I'll take every little win I can find or make.

Going to a potluck tonight, and it's very near Samhaine and el Dia de Los Muertos, so obviously I should bring Pan del Muerto. My yeast was VERY EXCITED today. Even with a doubled recipe, this is a trifle excessive.

Well, it's a different form of chaos with some fun learning experiences attached? Ok, I'll take it.

Yesterday involved a head cold, punctured water pipe, a kid unexpectedly showing up at my house needing a place to hang out because reasons, GMing after leaving my notes on my desk (seat of pants time!) and taking a chunk out of my steel watchband. I would like today to involve less chaos please.

Witchhazel is so much better than forsythia. I get gorgeous blossoms in spring that smell fabulous, and then in autumn I get this.

If it requires a Dremel to cut excess material off the rack on the back of the bike, so that a fender will fit underneath, maybe consider that the rack is not so well designed after all? Signed, me.

I would really rather we didn't recreate the middle ages in certain ways. Unfortunately, rampant medicine overuse means that a lot of pharmaceutical methods for dealing with things don't work anymore, because the bugs have developed resistance. 1/2

I attempted to throw four pots today, and I'm very much in the "screw it up so I learn things" stage. The first two just collapsed, because I got the clay too wet. The third came out ok, and the fourth sheered off the wheel when I made the base too shallow. Hurrah, I had a learning experience!

I am very pleased to have an additional 24 sq feet of sheetrock up on my basement ceiling. I am less pleased with the amount of fitting-around-pipes I'm having to do, and the amount of sheetrock that I'm now wearing. However, a kid went downstairs and said, "Oh wow that looks really nice!" 😄

I'm missing a piece of equipment that will make this a lot easier and make it much less likely that I will throw my back out - but I did hang three pieces of sheetrock today, and my basement ceiling already is shedding less horsehair. Of course, this is countered by me discovering that 1/2

I have been having a fun time talking about words with my kids, because being avid readers, they're doing the thing where they pronounce a word they've only ever seen written differently than those who heard it first. (Scythe is the current fun one.) So I started thinking about my childhood words.

I'm tired of running from crisis to crisis. I really, really need a break. Like...a lot. I have so many bits of quilt fabric I'd like to use up, and no TIME to even wash them, much less iron, cut, or pin. And tonight I found one (1) moth in my yarn. And all the while, the crises still keep going.

Today, I reaped the rewards of a successfully made wisdom check last week: I went to PT for my effed up shoulder *before* I got my flu shot. Of course, my shoulders will hate me tomorrow, but that's inevitable. I'd rather sore shoulder for a couple of days.

The plumbers who put the slop sink back in the basement took almost as long as the guys installing the new sewer pipe. I could tell they were the B team. Fortunately, sinks are much easier to adjust than pipes embedded in concrete. But they can't come back until Tuesday to finish, so: Quiet house! 😄

This is Gracie. She's a Leonberger, with paws the size of a coffee cup lid, and I got to pet her. Then I got to reassure her that yes, her human would be back shortly, it was just that humans have unnecessarily-complicated the whole tree-watering process. She was very soft. #uglyDogs

I won the library hold lottery! Now I'm going to lose something that I have previously thought was innocuous and safe!
