Finished reading Basil Moreau: Founder of Holy Cross by Gary MacEoin. What struck me most wasn't just Moreau's vision for education, but his perseverance through years of criticism and disappointment. "The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart."

Just finished The Data Book for Educators Who Don't Like Data by Michael Roberts. Easily the best book on school data I've read. Practical, thoughtful, and full of ideas I'll carry into the new school year. Highly recommended for school leaders. @solutiontree.bsky.social

A leadership book should leave you with more questions than answers. From Leading to Succeeding by Douglas Reeves did exactly that. It challenged me to think less about activity and more about impact. That's a worthwhile reflection heading into a new school year.

Just finished rereading My Life with the Saints by James Martin, SJ. One takeaway that stayed with me is the idea that we spend too much time trying to be who others expect us to be instead of becoming who we were created to be. A good reminder heading into a new week.

Yesterday’s half marathon was fun and fast—one of those days where everything just clicked. Today’s recovery run… slow, heavy, and a bit miserable. @fit_leaders

Just finished A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Not really an outdoors person, but I enjoyed it. Great storyteller—made something I wouldn’t normally be into worth reading.

Tonight’s volunteer appreciation event at the Gateway Food Pantry was a reminder that this work only happens because of people who care enough to show up and serve. Thank you to our volunteers for the time, energy, and heart you give to others. I’m grateful for all you do.

I finished Just Look Up. It focuses on what kids need to hear—but the truth is, adults need those same things too. To be noticed. To be encouraged. To be reminded they matter. Good reminder for me to slow down, look up, and be more present with the people around me.

Went to Mass this morning and ended up meeting Robbie Avila. Really kind, humble, and gracious with his time. Always a good reminder—you never know who you’ll run into, but how people show up always matters.

Spent some time at the Chapel of Saint Vincent de Paul—a beautiful and meaningful space. The architecture, the details, and the history all stand out. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down for a bit and take it all in. Glad I had the chance to visit.

Just finished Leadership from the Inside Out (2nd ed.) by Kevin Cashman. A good reminder that leadership starts with self-awareness and purpose — not just strategies. Always grateful for books that push me to reflect on who I’m becoming, not just what I’m doing.

Just finished In Praise of the Useless Life by Brother Paul Quenon. A quiet, grounding reminder that a life doesn’t have to be productive to be meaningful. Presence matters. Faithfulness matters. Not everything of value can be measured. @avemariapress

Three weeks off for recovery. Not ideal, but today was about showing up and seeing what was there. Finished under 2 hours. Grateful to be back moving, even if it wasn’t perfect. Onward.

After three long weeks of wearing the cone, the Prince of the City is officially free! Today’s follow-up appointment went great, and Alfred is back to ruling his kingdom in comfort.

Finished The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. Grateful to Dave Meschke for the gift. Lots to think about—slowing down, being present, and choosing what really matters. A perspective I want to carry forward.
