For the second time, in two very different jobs, I'm encountering unexpected HTTP 502 errors in a backend API. In each case, the symptom is the reverse proxy reporting "Connection closed unexpectedly" or similar. I suspect the problem in each case to be HTTP keep-alive. Is it just me?

From the category of "things I've done a 180 on": I used to think that a backend PR needs to be verified manually (e.g. using curl, or from a browser). Today I try to arrange things in such a way that I can merge (and deploy!) my change without ever starting up a local HTTP server.
