Welcome to a new update on the Hex Evo Development Progress.
In the last update, we talked about mechanical design adjustments we were doing in collaboration with our manufacturer to adapt all the plastic parts for mass production. Work documents were shared that showed feedback, iterations, and changes from versions 3.1 to 3.5 (including versions in between like 3.3a, 3.3b, and 3.3c, for example). For the past few months, we have continued to work on these design adjustments and updates. While we have resolved most of the issues that came out with prototyping of previous versions, we continue to work on these adjustments and are currently on version 4.1.
What has taken most of our time during the past 3 months is the mechanism that holds the top buttons in place against the top enclosure. We were using a spring-like system that helps keep the button in place and bounce back after being pressed. However, although it works, the button feel with the new mouse switches that we're now using just wasn't right. We redesigned the mechanism that holds the buttons in place and have now achieved the right feel on these, while also reducing the number of screws needed to hold them in place from 6 to 1, without increasing the number of plastic parts needed.

These changes not only mean a better button feel and increased durability but also a reduction of materials used in production as well as increased ease of repairability/changing of components.

These are changes that we've made to these two parts in the past 3 months. There are more than 15 plastic parts like the ones shown in the above GIFs, and they have all gone through several iterations as well. Each iteration takes time, as we need to design the parts, send them to the shop for prototyping and ship them (usually a couple days), thoroughly test them (this is the most time-consuming part), and redesign and prototype again. Each iteration typically requires about a week for building and testing, although it may take longer depending on the complexity. Spaces are tight, tolerances are low, and there are many small parts that interact with each other. A small change in one of them often requires changes in other parts, and each iteration needs to be prototyped.
The above is just to show you the process and explain why each iteration takes time. Although a game controller may seem like a simple product—and it is, compared to many other, far more complex devices—fitting all the required components into a tight space while ensuring everything works correctly, can be produced at very large volumes with minimal scrap, remains durable and reliable, and meets all the performance and quality standards we’ve set for this product is a highly complex endeavor. We’re taking the time to do it right, without cutting corners, to ensure we deliver the high-end product we want you to have.
We expect to complete the remaining updates and testing of the new top button design before the end of November. Once all the mechanical adjustments are finalized, we will produce the prototypes in ABS plastic—the same material used for mass production—for final verification, followed by beta test production, certifications, and manufacturing setup.

Regarding the ETA, I will provide an estimate when the Beta Testing ll round is concluded. At this point, we'll have a more accurate perspective on when the mass-produced units will be shipped out and I'll be able to give you a date that I'm confident will be a reality.
