Honestly there's a correlation between fans thinking they can influence the creative process and the rise of generative AI in the creative space. It comes from the same place of unqualified, lazy people thinking they can do a creator's job better while putting no real effort in.

It already takes a lot of willpower to give your ideas shape and put them out there for people to judge. It's a frightening thing. Creators, especially indie ones, need all the support they can get. Making a creator want to distance themselves from something they put so much into DOES NOT HELP.

In the 80s and 90s, studios like Atlus and Rare were making shovelware distributed by LJN. If they were to put out those kinds of games nowadays, they'd be shut down on the spot. Studios don't get a chance to improve and refine their craft. Not even good studios get that opportunity now.
