New update! I'll be joining Colby's Classics Department as a Visiting Assistant Professor this fall. I'm sad to leave my wonderful colleagues and students at Bowdoin. But I am excited to be staying in Maine and I'm looking forward to this new venture!

Final proofs are in for my contribution to Sublime Cosmos in Graeco-Roman Literature and its Reception (Bloomsbury) which is due to come out in April 2024! My contribution explore references to Isthmus of Corinth in Latin imperial poetry and their connection to the canal project.

We're reading the Pliny's ghost story letter (7.27) and I'm struck by the fact that first ghost seems to be the genius (the tutelary guardian spirit) of Africa. Is it me or is unusual to have an appearance of a genius be put in a collection of ghost stories?
