The Principal Effect: A Key Strategy for Tackling Today's School Challenges [Webinar] A new white paper from the Learning Policy Institute titled "The Principal Effect" examines how effective principals can address broader efforts to improve classroom engagement, support educators, and build stronger school systems. It also identifies where strategic support from federal, state, and district leaders can strengthen school leadership and student outcomes. As policymakers and education leaders seek solutions for addressing chronic absenteeism, student mental health, targeted teacher shortages, and the learning recovery challenges facing today’s schools, the focus is often on single solutions. But there is an overarching factor that research tells us is critical for improving all of these outcomes: effective principals. How exactly do principals shape the conditions for the students and teachers in the buildings they lead? And what kinds of learning opportunities do principals need to be effective?
